Wolves 3 - 3 Fulham (lost 5-3 on pens): The FA Cup 3rd round replay Verdict Thread.

you are all making total sense, but the hairs on the back of my neck still won't lay down.

I just feel that unless we add a couple of senior players before we get promoted, we will get some serious thrashings before they can bed in, and i really believe if we can keep this side together for another season, they will really move on. The team spirit is great, KJ is showing tactical nouse, and turning around the bad run was a sure sign of this, but I think we need to turn our play into more goals, and add some smarts on the pitch during the game.

Saying that i kinda feel VLP will start bursting the sprout bag on a regular basis now he's broken the ice.

This times a million for me

Iorfa is one big reason we have tightened up at the back. Im not going to go off on one with Doherty but he concedes too much ground and cant get back when out of position, Iorfa if he makes a mistake can get back in and defends crosses miles better then Doherty.

Could not have put it better. Stears and Batth arent the quickest and need their full backs to provide cover and close quickly. Iorfa does that considerably better that Doherty and I think Batth and Sterman appear to have more confidence in Iorfa as a result. That improves their game and allows them to concentrate on what they need to be doing not worrying about whats coming down the side.

For the most part the players gave everything they could. It was a good contest and an enjoyable night out. Here are my ratings:

Starting XI:

Ikeme - 8: Generally commanding and hardworking especially after it looked like he might need to go off injured very early on.

Iorfa - 7.5: Didn't have a good first half but grew into the game as it went on. Would've scored if not for a great close-range save.
Batth - 8: Did well. Got an assist and coped with the adverse conditions admirably.
Stearman - 9: He's found some great form of late. He threw his body on the line for the cause yet again. I hope he keeps this up. His driving run was a real highlight.
Doherty - 6.5: Got the runaround at times. You could see that he was nervous when he stepped up for that penalty.

Price - 8: I saw some people on Twitter saying that he had a poor game but I disagree. He poured his heart and soul into the game in trying circumstances. He didn't stop running all night. He lost the ball a couple of times but the effort he put in made up for it in my opinion.
McDonald - 7.5: Did okay. His movement off the ball is lacking at times in my opinion.

Henry - 5: Baffling that he was subbed off at half time ahead of Evans though he made little impact in truth.
Evans - 2: Abysmal. Constantly lost the ball and backed out of challenges. Lost the ball in the build up to and gave away a stupid penalty in the last minute of the game by raising his arm to protect his face. There's no room for a coward in our team and given KJ's reaction to this, it'll be a long time before he sees any more first team action.
van La Parra - 7.5: Frustrating at times. Overplays the ball and rarely delivers a cross. On the other hand he finally got his first Wolves goal. He was tireless and hard-working.

McAlinden: 4: I think he's gone backwards. He started out on the left and couldn't get around Jack Grimmer if he tried. When he switched to centre forward he didn't win a single header, took up poor positions in the box and was constantly out-muscled. If this is what he has to offer I doubt he has a future at Wolves.

Substitutes:

Dicko - 7: Brought much-needed impetus to the front line. I don't think he handled the conditions too well, nothing worked for him when the snow was down and I think that's something he can work on.
Edwards - 8: He was excellent on the night scoring two goals. I hope this is something he's going to take into Saturday.
Clarke - N/A: Not enough time to make an impact.

Others:

KJ: Visibly disappointed by Lee Evans' cowardice.

Referee: No complaints about the penalty decision. Generally good performance.
Linesmen: The Steve Bull-side lino failed to keep up with play on numerous occasions. Cauley Woodrow was standing on the line in an offside position in the build up to his second goal.

Not sure why you've rate Doherty lower than Iorfa. Ifora was very poor first half, but improved second. Doherty was steady all through.

I tried to balance it out and took a point off for his dreadful penalty. I thought he was steady overall but his spot kick showed a lot about his composure or lack of. He won't succeed as a full back without it and needs to improve because he'll face similar situations in years to come.

Well this is a different view from the one I was given by the commentators on BBC Radio 5 live Xtra.
You're entitled to your opinion Penk. Be interesting to see what others think.

Here's a view from the WV1 Bar. It was certainly a memorable night.

Tell you what, Let me stand 10 yards away from you and fire a ball at your face and see what your reaction is. Protecting your face is an instinct and no matter if you are a footballer or not, your arms will come up to protect it.

You have to fight that instinct and take a ball in the face for your team. There should be no question of protecting your face.

Fucking hilarious. best thing you have ever put on here.

Trust me you don't want a shot in the face from ower resident clogger.

In the first half the commentator and Frogatt were talking about how exposed Iorfa was, because Henry wasn't helping him out. Henry was hauled off at half time and from then on they couldn't stop talking about how brilliant he was.

Think the slating of Evans is a bit harsh. He's been great this season but I get a sense of feeling that some people (not particularly on here) can't wait to find something to have a go at him for.

Absolutely. I have no idea why either. Evans, Doherty and even Stearman aren't allowed to make any errors without being lambasted for them by some people.

So are you saying that the ref got it wrong, Kenny and he shouldn't have given a penalty?

Shafted by the Officials again. Linesman should have given offside for their second and ref made wrong call for penalty?

It is technically a handball, but it is very rare to see them given unless the hand is actually well away from the face. Especially frustrating as it was the last kick of extra time.

Agreed, Evans was poor last night, but like Iorfa they are allowed an off game every now and again.

.

Not at all, all I aM saying is you can't slate a player for having the natural instinct to protect his face. Throw something at someone from close range and at speed and the arms will come up. If he has thrown his arm above his head to stop the ball, then its a different story but from reports (haven't seen the incident) it was hands up to protect the face. Not a cowardly act (LOLZ) but the reactions of a human. If the ref deems that a penalty, then nothing that can be done about it.

Very much, young players HAVE to have bad games and be allowed to learn from them. Both of these players have shown a lot of progression this season!

Andy, I'll ring up Cesc Fabregas and you can tell him not to cover his face at a free kick too.

Agree with this.
I was being facetious btw ;)
