Wolves 4-0 Watford - Verdict Thread

1-1 Draw in XG land (roundings)
1.55 vs 0.50 here:

Does show how unreliable xG can be for a single match, it's for underlying trends across a series of games (or even a whole season), not to show "Team A deserved to win here as their xG was better".

The measurements always seem off to me too, Podence's goal should be higher than 0.19 surely. Assuming he can kick the ball that far it was an open goal.

King's chance for them (their only chance, realistically) coming in at 0.09 when he should have buried it, it wasn't a difficult chance.

I think thats what is so confusing. If we start on the back foot we stay on it and vice versa. The difference between palace and Watford approaches was enormous
The difference between the approach of Palace and Watford explains everything. Watford let us play and Palace didn’t. The Everton game was a microcosm of our season. First half they sat back and they could have been more than 2-0 at halftime, in the second we were hanging on for a 2-1 win. Our approach is heavily dictated by the opposition, much more than the attitude of our players.

I do see where you are coming from . That doesn't explain the lacklustre displays v Norwich or retreating into our shell against Leeds or Arsenal when leading, our inability to turn up against Burnley or , in truth our insipid home performance against Brentford who we just allowed to do what they liked. We played like we had been bollocked and , in truth last night , we had. It says everything that Sa was considered the worst player on the pitch with a 7 on the BBC scores. The first time this season he has finished bottom in their poll I believe.

Fbref has 0.9-0.9 and they use the best data from Statsbomb tbf.

But it will be because Podence scored from distance, Neves scored a ridiculous goal and one was an own goal. We were clearly the more dominant team.

And as I'll keep saying, single game xG isn't that useful anyway.

With Foster off his line for 90% of the game to be further away from the abuse behind him I really think Neves could have scored one from his own half given the chance.

Like a masochist I had a proper look at one of his stupid videos today.

What a fucking idiot he really is, he's nearly as old as me and he's trying to talk like an 18 year old. Also seems like he treats football as a hobby these days which must be lovely for Watford fans to see, I'd be livid if we had one of our players pulling this kind of nonsense. Amazed the management haven't told him to pack it in.

Was great to see him rattled yesterday.

Easy to be an Albion-fellating keyboard warrior when things are going well, different story when getting dicked and receiving a 90 minute round of fucks from thousands of people a few feet away 😅

Fantastic stuff when he lamped one out of play (which one, the Crichton-esque wanker) and blamed the guy on their right hand side for not getting to it.

Yes Ben, your passes are just too good for everyone else to understand.

He's a decent cyclist, tbf to him 😏

I thought we dominated the game but we didn't really make that many clear cut chances

Didn't really need to do so.

Clinical in the opening 20 mins and then just some top game management. Keep the ball, don't let them get a look in and enjoy a pressure free 45-60 mins. It was a fookin delight to watch.

We should get SOME xg for the own goal as it was a very presentable chance for RAN that he completely fucked up but the defender helpfully put it past Foster.

He was trying to play it back to Hwang rather than shoot. It wasn't a great pass but he certainly wasn't going for goal (despite us announcing him as the scorer)

That's a bit unfair. We scored 4, Raul's should've stood, Silva had a decent go from a low cross, Podence had that little curl from the top of the box that was just outside, etc.

It's not as if the Horseshoe of Doom was the reason we didn't make more chances, the team were positive.
