Wolves Academy Thread

back four, possibly diamond midfield with Corbeanu and Samuels as the forwards.

sadou Diallo back after a lengthy injury I think. Tipton has been very good for the U18s this season too.

Didn’t know Jackson Smith was still at the club to be honest

2-0 down at HT. Wesley started for them, didn't last very long though.

That's a really weak team, at least five of that starting XI don't belong at the club.

The first team don't have a game until Saturday at the earliest where Otasowie will in all likelihood be an unused sub, yet he can't get a game for the U23s on the Monday. I find it ridiculous

Nuno doesn't tend to use these games for fringe players, never really has. Even those coming back from injury. Just not the way he operates.

Also what I'd say is it means Otasowie is firmly (currently anyway) a first team squad member, whereas Richards etc are filling the bench currently.

Yes, I know. Doesn't make it correct though, it means you have a footballer who only ever trains

The periodisation approach (used by most Portuguese coaches amongst others) is about it being enough to prepare them for games. Playing U23s games where the physical level isn't the same won't do much to help. We've dropped someone in for the EFL trophy games but those games have been against actual men.

Wonderful move and good finish from Samuels..

I do like Hong Wan in midfield.

Eh? Of all the players on the pitch Wan is probably the weakest (I think he's terrible, I'm sure he's a nice lad but as a footballer he's Vanarama standard at the best). Diallo just looks like he isn't that bothered, which is a shame as the lad's clearly got some talent. Atsu has the same look about him for newcastle.

Wolves are 4-5-1 and quite deep which is a shame as a I thought the 4-2-3-1 formation it would be more attacking. There are passages of play where we look OK, mainly involving Cundle who is playing behind Samuels. Corbeanu is having a stinker, nothing is coming off for him on either flank. And in the main our attacking is looking one paced, lacking in movement and all too similar to Friday night. But, when we do move the ball fast and we get players in on goal we look great.

Defensively we look impressive, Richards has had a very good first half up against Atsu and Marques and Lonwjik look far too good for this level. Somebody must've told Marques to get on the weights as he looks a beast for a lad who's just turned 18. He reads the game magnificently and his passing has been as good as anything I've seen in the U23's this season.

With Grasshoppers going up I wonder if Marques, Corbeanu and Richards might be over there next season.

He's a DM and does it well. Always available to receive a pass and knocks it about nicely, knows where to be from a defensive point of view, snaps into tackles.

Diallo has got a good touch but that's about it, just doesn't look bothered or interested.

The whole back line looks decent including the keeper.

Samuels gets a second, deflecting in a Diallo strike at goal for 2-0.

I just don't see that player in Wan at all Andy.

I hope for Andy's sake it was Hong Wan

Corbeanu got the third from a good cross from Jack Scott. Much better second half over all, higher press and Corbeanu and Hesketh playing much better with sharper movement in the wider roles.
