Wolves Academy Thread

This is good. An opportunity this summer for some of them I think, if Bruno takes a liking to someone that may have not got a chance previously.
Who would your money be on? Otasowie (if we still count him as an U23) would appear to be his type of player if he the rumoured attitude issues are overcome

Otasowie is probably the nearest of that group (if he even counts as in the group) anyway but then Nuno clearly liked him enough too. We need to work out his best position quickly though I think.

Cundle might suit playing in a deeper midfield role with options in front of him, Campbell as a wide player coming inside and clearly has a lot of potential.

Marques ready (or even suitable with a change in formation)?

He's now a 'first year pro' in terms of age, so it might be a bit too early (Lonwijk is same age). But either of those could get a chance in pre-season I reckon and if they impress enough in the new system (I reckon will be 442/4231) they might be a more permanent first team squad member. I think one or both might go on loan though.

Yup agreed. Means that they are either one step closer to an impact or involvement at Wolves, that the overall standard of player at the academy is better or that eventually a fee on sell on fee will be larger, all of which are positive.

Was interesting to see Jack Hodnett was in the first team training sessions, he looked quite sharp. Don't think he quite kicked on as expected as he was in Engand U15 squads but he's still only a first year pro now.

Am sure I will have mentioned this before but did you ever see the little article on the Belgium FAs late bloomer project? Was in one of the very first few issues. Part of what we seem to be doing now matches at least parts of that.

I may have done, do you have a link?

Spurs have been very good with this in the past too.

Sadly no, only ever saw it in the actual printed mag thing. They basically said they noticed that at youth footballer in particular it was players born later in the age rankings (June/July/August) that were being released, but that many of them were then becoming successful in adulthood. So they started to work on late bloomer squads or spilt squads to try and combat that.

I don't think we do, someone on the mix Linky link did a breakdown of birth months for academy players and 23 of 24 were born Sept to Jan.

One Academy I know a lad in segments the teenage teams by stages of puberty, I'm sure it's dressed more sophisticatedly than that, but it's a way of ensuring those who are falling behind through no fault of their own aren't binned without due consideration. I also know another lad in an Academy who plays below his age with the permission of the opposition because technically he's there, but physically he's tiny.

That's a great idea, they should do this in schools too. Lord knows how though

Yeah, not that I was ever good enough to go pro but I got written off when I was a kid as I was absolutely tiny until I hit 15/16. We were still in the era then of it not being based on skill and chucking 9 year olds on full sized pitches with full sized goals. Barmy.

I was happy with the level I reached in the end.

Junior Rugby in Southern Hemisphere is arranged by size / weight, rather than age. Much better system.

Brilliant, got to be Congolese ancestry there.

Wondered what Bootsie Collins had been up to lately

First year scholars. Interested to see how Ty Barnett does now as he is highly rated
