Wolves v Stoke: Carabao Cup Rd 2

Being sold. No great loss if that is the case.

This is a total guess. No clue what else it could be unless breach of discipline.
I've seen he had a baby gender reveal party (very millennial) and broke the rule of 6. Naturally could be bollocks, but I'd say it's more credible than being flogged

Oof just seen the goal. That was some Doherty-esque strolling back from Traore. And uh...well Ruddy has covered himself in something there but it ain't glory.

That would make a lot more sense.

Just caught the highlights, only really two incidents of note.

Silva really has to score his chance, plenty of opportunity to see the ball coming over from the initial header and he just fluffs it with the instep, if he puts his laces through it with some conviction he probably scores. Disappointing.

Then the goal against, what a sack of shit that is, don't think anyone involved does their job properly. Starts with Neves pressing the ball, overcommits and sells himself like a mug, beaten far too easily. Then whichever of Neto or Podence was wide on the right doesn't track the left back at all, they get a two on one against Traore, promptly repeats Neves error and dives in so gets easily beaten. Boly eventually provides some sort of obstacle forcing them inside but he just keeps following the man inside even though Neves has sort of recovered his position by then. For some reason then Coady drifts back across to the middle too leaving a huge gaping hole on the right side of the defence, exactly where the eventual goalscorer is lurking. Ball runs all the way through and there is no-one anywhere near close enough to have impact on it so Ruddy joins the party and palms the ball into his net just to make sure.

I didn't see the game, but purely on the back of the team we put out it's exceptionally disappointing to lose.

“Him and Max were not available for selection. We have a short squad, all the options are good, but today they were not available. Decisions we have to make, we have to prepare the squad, we have to know the moment of the season.“

For Jota it was all to do with the baby shower party they had today, which had more than 6 people there. If they said he was on the squad then it's possible the whole team would have to self isolate. Kilman i don't know.

If that's the case it's stupid on a pretty epic scale.

I'm disappointed, I'm always disappointed when we lose, don't care what the competition is. I've been sticking up for Vinagre recently but going on what I've read on here, it might be the end for him at Wolves. Its good for Fabio and Vitinha to get some gametime but that brings me to the thing that disappoints me most, that the two youngsters have lost the opportunity to get some minutes in playing meaningful games for a while

They'll play plenty. Vitinha came on against Sheff Utd!

Fabio didn't as we didn't need him to but he'll get his minutes.

I'm sure you're right but a run of cup games would have seen them get longer periods on the pitch, they'll surely only be used from the bench for the majority of league games this season?

Well, I recorded the stream and just sat through the recording of it as if real time, having gone full "The Likely lads." for a couple of hours this evening.

Sake :shake:

If anyone wants a copy of the match video let me know!

The dream would have been Silva scoring and a victory, and that's exactly what it should have been.

After Donk came off and we had that weird Neves on his own in CM and we looked totally disjointed, surprised Nuno didn't just bring Mout on instead of Podence.

*Vitinha looks a little lightweight, but has a lovely touch, i hate how much he looks like Grealish though, even the way he carries himself!

* McLean should have been sent off for 2 bookings (although i doubt he does the 2nd if he's already been booked)

* Saiss was excellent again

* Vinagre is trying too hard, but his crossing is truly awful

* Ruddy was shite, had very little to do but managed to make 2 fuck ups.

* Burr is steady, but doesn't really offer anything other than good positioning, he doesn't really do anything other than make a 10 yard pass when he does have the ball

not sure I get all these "just getting people minutes" comments. so stoke was full strength with 6 months of conditioning under their belts? I don't have some huge love of cup competitions but I definitely see value in the gametime they can provide. losing the way we did to who we did... not gonna overreact about the team in general but it's a shit results that shaves further opportunity for players who aren't regulars.

I'm annoyed whenever we lose, but this is the competition where it's the least damaging. This stuff just happens in cups sometimes. It's happened to us for years, Fosun aren't gonna make us immune to it!

If anything it may be a blessing in disguise if it underlines that there's still work to be done on the team and certain players

Having told Cyber he was overreacting last night I find myself more cross this morning than I was last night. All credit to the Stoke boss for working out that if he allowed Wolves 70% possession we wouldn’t know WTF to do with it.
What concerns me – as in so many games at the end of last season – was the lack of urgency, the lack of drive from midfield. Let’s see what Monday brings, but sometimes I think we need to get back to Portugal and sign Snotinho…

Firstly it’s a game we’ve lost so I’m naturally annoyed.
Really not buying the “it’s only the league cup so who cares attitude” end of the day it’s a competition we could have realistically gone very deep into or won.

I cannot get over the fact that there was 160m of talent on that team with plenty of first team regulars and it created the square root of fuck all against a team who have been lower championship for two years. There are some that call it a mickey mouse competition , but its always been the poor relation in terms of a cup and we were quite happy when we won it 40 years ago. This season with no Europe it was a good opportunity to give game time to some of the understudies and that was blown at the first hurdle.

I also understand that we cannot win every game and will lose , its the manner of many of our defeats that frustrates me. Arsenal Sheff United Sevilla, and Stoke are all carbon copies of defeats in the last few months where we created zilch. Now there is a great difference between Stoke and Sevilla in quality but the same failings equally apply. If you don't create you don't score.

Of last nights team Ruddy had nothing to do yet managed to do it badly, Burr was OK but is limited, Vinagre frustrated the hell out of me as he couldn't cross a road, Adama went nowhere fast bar one cross, Silva missed his big chance from 4 yards, Coadys usual long passes hit touch or aged striped shit , even Boly gave the ball away. And the tempo was slow. It gives teams chance to bank up and defend and Stoke did that really well.

Now we have Man City and I fear that Adama at wing back won't work twice against them. I would shake hands on a point now without a proper RWB. We are going to need to score two to get anything. Hopefully the ref will be in a generous mood. Man City don't lose to the same team and tactics four games on the bounce I fear. My crumb of comfort was they fucked up twice v Lyon last season.

Still need RWB and LWB please. If that involves a Vinagre trade to Portugal then go for it.

I'd just put Sondegaard on the bench from now on, if Rui ever gets injured Ruddy can't be trusted to play - I don't buy the "experience" thing, as whenever he plays he either throws one in or lets in goals he should definitely be saving so what exactly does the experience count for?
