What pretty much the whole NFL world thinks of Bill O'Brien right now:

The link doesn't work in the UK, but essentially swapping a Top 3 WR for a washed up running back with a massive salary and a WR with multiple concussions is an unusual strategy

Sorry about the link. It was a radio show over here, the host was describing how O'Brien has undone his luck at getting Deshaun Watson:

Trade Clowney to the Seahawks for peanuts and pay part of his salary

Acquire Laremy Tunsil at great expense but without agreeing a contract extension beforehand

Trade DeAndre Hopkins for an overpaid and injury prone running back

Then trade for another overpaid injury prone player - to replace Hopkins.

The Hopkins trade is one of the NFL worst ever trades, made primarily because O'Brien does not like Hopkins. O'Brien is not a good enough coach to do this - "Hopkins is about a million times better at his job than O'Brien is at his". Bill Belichick can do that sort of thing - O'Brien cannot.

They reckon Patricia is the same in Detroit. Talks to players like crap and doesn't have the credit in the bank to get the respect for it. Watched what Belichick did without really understanding it.

Shouty management still works in American Football and is still seen as 'Manly' for some reason. Bizarre given how much better coaches do when they're not berating players constantly.

Coaches in all sports shout at players, but you have to earn the right to do it.

That's old school and not really the way things are anymore. NLP is far better at getting results coupled with good leadership.

SAFs "hairdryer" worked, whatever you think of the morality of shouting at grown men.

Sport has moved on now though. The players have all the power and the profile. The older managers like Mourinho are being phased out. You need a more gentle approach with a bit of anger just for bad situations.

Whenever I see the team meetings on Hard Knocks or All or Nothing it always seems really cliched and forced positivity with the players invariably zoned out. I assume that's just for the cameras.

High school and college sports are so much bigger in the US. Coaches find it easy to shout at "kids" and I'm guessing this transfers into professional leagues.

There are idiots everywhere. Piss poor coaches shout and scream as they've lost any sort of control and their players belief. That's not shouting to be heard but screaming at them because they're not doing what they think should be happening.

It happens in most sports. That isn't to say you can't have a robust conversation or get your emotions out but it should be constructive if it is at a player no matter what the age.

Think about it from a players point of view, did you want to be shouted and screamed at and if you were did it get the best out of you when it happened? Or did you think that bloke was a complete twat?

The best example right now of a coach that has complete control is the current diety occupying our very own dugout.

That's a shame a it was a decent watch. Circumstances have killed it, I hope it comes back in some form, hopefully with more teams.

    Gronk + 7th Rd for a 4th Rd.

Not surprising, he looks too old and beaten up now.

Gronk looked done in his last year with the Pats. I suppose a year out could have given his body time to recover. Gives Brady someone to check down to I suppose. They'll get a lot of US Primetime coverage, but I don't see it working out. They have a WR core that's built on having a QB with an arm, they just needed one to throw it less to the opposition

No big surprises in the 1st round at all. Packers taking a QB is a slight surprise but it makes sense, Rodgers is 37 and getting the heir apparent with plenty of time to learn is a good strategy.

Chase Young was a good second draft as Burrow was always going number one.

Jerry Jones picking a player he doesn't need to spite Philly was quite entertaining. Stupid use of resource just to be a nob.

Tagovailoa is the interesting one. If he stays fit he might well be a better QB than Burrow.
