What I think, not what I'd do:
    Roy
    Burns
    Vince
    Root
    Stokes
    Buttler
    Bairstow
    Moeen
    Woakes
    Archer
    Anderson

Just have a feeling they'll pick Woakes over Broad or Curran as it's Edgbaston - home ground and just bowled well against them there in the semi.

I'd put Bairstow at 3, give Foakes the gloves and play Broad

I know Mo is obviously a good player but isn't he miles out of form right now? Would nobody take Leach instead?

I think it's a possible, but think they'd be scared of a potential tail of:
    Archer
    Broad
    Leach
    Anderson

Leach can bat a bit. Although not today. We got fucking destroyed by Yorkshire to give up the Championship lead.

Good point, England should have enough batsman to play and out and out spinner. Meaning Broad, Anderson and Leach would be the tailenders- which is better than most or every other country, who usually pick at least 4 outright bowlers (apart from India at home).

    We don't though as we're always 30/3.

Not sure we would trust Leach against Australia.

Leach might be useful in the last test at the Oval if it turns into a super hot summer. Otherwise I don't see any of the test venues turning into a dustbowl bunsen. He is great at Cyderabad, but we prepare pitches to get the best out of his talents.

Also Mo has a really good record at home. Averaged 21 in both 2017 and 2018.

    I know.

I am in mourning for our championships chances tonight. I'll perk up tomorrow but that was a REALLY bad defeat.

Chance for a couple to secure an ashes berth then.

If Jimmy plays I'm guessing Stone and Leach will be the two to miss out, although Smith was bigging up Denly and Root as bowling options so perhaps he's thinking of not playing Mo

Well its Denlys last chance to impress, but at least he brings some decent form to this test if selected.

I really wonder who Sam Northeast pissed off though.

Welcome to Middlesex AB de Villiers... 88 not out in 43 balls with five 4's and six 6's as Essex are brushed aside in 17 overs
Wolves have ambition and wit... why is it such a crime?

Outlaws didn't look great again tonight, 10 weeks without a win now.

The team look really unfit too, fuck knows what Moores has(n't) got them doing.

Duckett looked in terrible shape especially (obviously BFS is a lost cause now).

They haven't won a red ball game in over a year.

Samit is the same as he always has and will be.

Duckett is 24 FFS, he should be in prime condition.

Apparently Smith has been quoted today as saying he wants to play 6 bowlers against Ireland, apart from Root and Denly, so looks like it will be Stone and Gregory will miss out.

So that means that Anderson, Broad, SCurran, Leach, Ali and Woakes will play if fit

    Roy
    Burns
    Denley
    Root
    Bairstow
    Ali
    Woakes
    SCurran
    Leach
    Broad
    Anderson

Wood will miss this and at least the first two of the Ashes.

Archer has been sent to Barbados for some rest but has a slight side strain, so it's fingers crossed for him for Ashes selection.

I can't see us playing two spinners at Lord's (and Mo is very much a bowling all rounder these days).

I think Gregory will play rather than Leach.

    Isn't Gregory an all-rounder?

You may be right, I was only going on what Smith was reported to have said.

"The structure of the team is we will play six bowlers plus Joe Denly and Joe Root, so we will have lots of bowling options and that will enable the bowlers to get the right amount of work into them before the Ashes."

All rounder but more of a Woakes type. You'd never pick him to bat in the top six, put it that way. He's averaging something like 13 with the ball this season.

It's not going to matter vs Ireland, they are rancid these days. Sadly their Test status has arrived when they've massively declined. Their best players are still those who were playing in 2011.

Gregory can give it quite a biff, but don’t expect hours of crease occupation.
