Good recovery from the poor start. Almost an even session

Only 27 overs bowled in the first 2 hours, which included 5 overs from the spinner.

They will have to pick that up a bit as there are penalty points in the world test championship for poor over rate.

Where you and I differ is I don't agree with 2/3 of this. He's neither out of form or a Test opener, he just can't do that job. He may be able to bat in the middle order and if those two fail again we can't continue to pick both. I hope they both make scores this Test, but if that proves not to be the case I'd give Roy a go there. I appreciate that doesn't sort the opener issue.

OK it's my opinion he is out of form, but it's a fact that he is England's test opener and that he is inexperienced at it. This is only his 3rd match.
I'm not being facetious TT as I respect your opinion, but I feel that Roy was picked as an opener and if it doesn't work then I feel he should be replaced by another opener, not drop Buttler or Bairstow to accommodate him further down the order.
It may well be that England eventually do that, but in my opinion that would be wrong What happens if he fails again?

Bairstow needs to go on merit if he fails again, he has been atrocious at home for ages.

On holiday, but just thought I'd pop on here to post my customary moan about Denly and Root. One is clearly not good enough and one need to be removed from captaincy asap.

Denly actually batted well today and got an absolute snorter. Not often I would defend him as I think he is rubbish, but today I think he did okay.

So speaks a man who obviously hasn't watched the game so far re. Denly, and it's the same old, same old about Root and the captaincy ( yawn ) oh, excuse me.

Much as it pains me to say it Mitchell Johnson is actually rather good in the TMS commentary box. I am particularly enjoying him ribbing Boycott.

Listened to most of it, and watched a couple of hours on supersport actually.

Sure someone better than me could do some analysis on Roots record as captain and his conversion rate.

Roy and Root are the real disappointments today. For me, Denly changed his style slightly today. None of the idiotic wafts and he showed great patience. Much better from him. The ball that got him out was an absolute jaffa. Sort of one you just have to hope you don't nick.

Anyway - 50 for Burns. Another very patient knock.

So the Aussie fast bowlers are bowling a lot of short balls. I just hope the Umpires remember that when England bowl.

Very good catch. A shame because I thought Burns was set for a long stay.

Stokes won't mind that. He'll twat the occasional one to the boundary and leave the rest.

We'll probably struggle our way up to around 280. This is a 400+ wicket from what I've seen.

If we get to 280 then the chances are we won't lose as there is going to be loads of play lost unless the weather forecast changes. Tomorrow could well be a washout.

Hopefully the rain will save us. Hope it's not raining in Leeds next week or it will be a wasted journey for me!

Forecast is about the only thing in our favour here.

Not sure about Leeds next week. Hope you get some sunshine.

Thanks. Whilst there's Stokes and Woakes we still have a chance.

Well done Joe, got his head down and showed better offside judgement. Better players than him will nick off to that snorter. Awesome work at short leg. Roy and Buttler out wafting or poking when you can leave it.
    Carole Baskin is to blame.
