Nice ground now, much like Old Trafford it was very tatty and tired 15-20 years ago. But they've done a grand job with the revamp.

Hope it goes better than our last Ashes Test there...was on the way to a mate's wedding. Think we were 60/5 or something before we reached the venue.

Not the shortest day I have had at a test - went up to see the last day of an England v India rest at Lords in the 70's - by the time I got in Geoff Arnold had skittled 8 of the India side out & the game was over half an hour after I sat down.

Oh, I wasn't there in 2009. I was there in 2008 when I got to watch Ashwell Prince and AB de Villiers bat for 80%+ of the day. I did see one of Darren Pattinson's two Test wickets though.

Ollie Pope is currently 170* after his return from injury, apparently he was on call to be a concussion sub if one of our middle order players got whacked so he must be in the thinking still. I reckon he’ll end up playing consistently in all formats for England, last year was just a bit too early for him.

Warwickshire have managed to let Somerset back into the game despite scoring 400+ in the first innings and having a 111 lead. Wickets have gone to pace so Patel isn't going to be spinning us to victory and the pace line up is decimated

I'm there Sunday, can't wait either. Last time I was there that fat bastard Lehmann ripped us off flogging raffle tickets for a signed bat and then not doing the draw. Owes me £50.00 I think. Maybe it was £20.00, I aint forgot it though. Lol.
Just hope the next test lasts four days.

Compound interest would have turned the £20 into at least £50 so you need to sue for the larger figure really

Aye - but Kent are wrecking a winning position against Essex. Sodding hell.

CORRECTION - did completely spack it and Essex won. Fucking useless.

Got 176 in the end - won't help as this is day 3 of 4 & we haven't finished the first innings yet - draw all the way

The only scorecard I have seen like that a game in I played in was against Cove Rovers who had 11 West Indians in the team - doubt that many of us actually saw the ball when we batted & any runs were 4's off a thick edge

He could go as Jan Dekker, the darts player. Minimal effort, maximum accuracy.

Fuck that's as crap a performance as I have known. 40 all out for fucks sake. I have already pilloried the official Kent website not for the first time with regard to home batting as you know.

Langer reckoned it was a 'no brainer' when confirming Smith's absence from the 3rd Test. Aussies are an eloquent lot.

Excellent win for Somerset (phew!). Really good contributions with the bat by Banton and Bartlett. I know he is only 20, but it might be worth a look at Banton for number three or four for England. Not in the Ashes, but certainly for the winter tours. He looks really solid and his technique seems top drawer.

Win toss and bowl I would have thought. Have the best of the batting conditions tomorrow and into Saturday?

    Delay caused by rain.

England win the Toss and bowl

Same team for England, Australia replace Bancroft with Harris, and Siddle with Pattinson.

Good toss to win I think.
Ebony Rainsford on five live said 'win toss and bat', whilst at the same time saying 'Joffra Archer will be steaming in today'.

Starc misses out again. He's struggling to get his reverse swing going since the sandpaper was taken out of the occasion.

Paine says he would have batted anyway if he had won the Toss.

You would think Joe Root would know conditions at his home ground.

Need to bowl them out today for under 250 to justify bowling first. With the pitch supposedly set to spin I think I'd have batted.

Broad made Warner look like Tufnell there. No idea how he didn't nick one.
