    League One - Results,News,Live Discussion (non-Wolves Stuff)

I've been given the green light by the old man to start this thread here. (Sorry Frank).

I just figured it would be easier for everyone if we didn't have to switch sections to read about other team's developments in this wonderful league!

I'll begin with the result of the week:
    Carlisle v Leyton Orient 1-5

    Let the good times begin!

Watched the Football League show last night and thought that Oldham's winning penalty was a bit harsh for handball.

I think this is a good idea.

Was at the Walsall vs Tranmere game yesterday and Walsall were impressive and knocked the ball around lovely, Tranmere on the other hand had nothing at all. They got their goal through a Robinson free kick which was decent but i think they will struggle this season.

Does P'boro still have that guy that knocked in all the FK's for them last year? Gayle, I think his name was.

    Gayle's gone to Palace.

Their new signing to replace him, Assombalonga, scored on his debut yesterday.

If he fills in for Gayle appropriately then I'd have to think they're assured to be champions.

If our squad play to the standards they're capable of, it won't matter what Peterborough do.

The problem is that I'm not sure we really know what this squad is actually capable of.

Either way, my money's on Peterborough. Just a gut feeling, I s'pose.

Well I know that Hennessey, Foley, Stearman, Ricketts, Sigurdarson, Davis, Sako, Doumbia, Griffiths are all capable of playing for a side pushing for promotion to the Premier League. And some have. Evans, Doherty, Batth, Price, Cassidy, McAlinden, Ismail, Forde etc I'm not so sure on having not seen enough of them.

Play to the best of our abilities and we win the league. I know it's not as simple as that of course.

Reports I got from Shrewsbury yesterday claimed that MK Dons had only one serious effort on goal, whereas their keeper pulled off three or four good saves. Town went into the season with injury problems and have only two fit strikers, most other clubs in this league would love to have a squad like Wolves.

Where's the evidence that Sigurdarson, Davis, Sako, Doumbia & Griffiths are capable of playing for a team pushing for the Premier League, only time they've been in a position to do so they ended up getting relegated and only one of them really stood out for a prolonged period. The others which have been there before haven't been there for a very long time, are they still capable?

Agreed, as long as they stay fit. Three down in one game worries me. Another few weeks like that and we won't be able to put out a team.

But neither would anyone else, they would most likely be worse off

A good result for Preston, and highlights the fact that we played one of the better teams in our league away from home and kept a clean sheet

So when Wolves beat Man United a few seasons ago they were better than every other team United had played that so far that season since they were unbeaten at the time?

Indeed. A pointless rule of thumb that's about as accurate as any other half arsed measure of success.

Yet if they had lost at home to a non league team two days after drawing with us you know as well as I do that some would use that as an excuse to have a moan.

Saturday was a decent enough result, it was then and still is now.

Obviously not and it's still early in the season but based on the end of last season and the start of this Preston are going to be very hard to beat at home against sides in and around their level.

I said it in my verdict.

Result wasn't bad, performance gave very little sign of progress and no real indication of what direction the team is heading it, not once have complained with the outcome of the game, just the way it played out from a Wolves perspective.

Still saying someone beat/lost to x, y or z so that goes to show a, b or c is hardly scientific method.

No it's not as any team can beat any other on their day particularly when there isn't a lot between them but i think it does look like Preston could well be up there.

Also as you've mentioned it, i really hope Jackett implements a way of playing that is recognisable. I will see an awful lot of Walsall this season and that's one thing they have even with no real star players and it's definitely something i want to see at Molineux.

If you factor in last season's form you can maybe form some sort of pattern to how things are going, not many teams will carry that consistency over a summer break though and 2 competitive games isn't a great sample to be picking trends from, especially with one of them being a local derby in a knockout competition.

It's a decent enough result though for a first game, new manager, fair bit of disruption over the summer, away from home against someone the bookies fancy, happy enough to take the draw, just wish there'd been more positives in the Wolves performance and they'd made Preston work harder.

Indeed, why bother with form guides or analysis. I'll just give you and your ego a call and based on your playing experience you'll let me know how to predict/ measure success.
