Lovely to see the back of a bunch of utter tools, but I think we need to see what the new batch are like before we get to keen on Mrs May. At least with Greening as ed sec we'll hopefully see a more tolerant tone.

You'd have thought he'd have been first against the wall. Perhaps says something about the party's long-term plans for the NHS.

Conflicting reports - BBC say he has been sacked as Health Secretary but that he may be given another Cabinet post - ITV saying he hasn't been sacked but may be given another role.

Villier's resigns as she doesn't like the post she's been offered. Rumours that she's off to audition for the role of Morticia in an Addams family stage show have yet to be confirmed by anyone ITK as yet.

Taking the piss out of patients celebrating Hunt the cunt being sacked, and then referring to them as "loathsome tits".

Fucking foul woman. A pox on the gene pool that a good hanging would soon sort out.

Just had this circulated round our email regarding Justine Greening:

New PM Theresa May has appointed Justine Greening as the Secretary of State for Education and Minister for Women and Equalities. So who is Justine Greening and what might her new role under Theresa May’s premiership mean for education policy?

Who is Justine Greening – what do you need to know?

She has been SoS for international development for 4 years – before that she was SoS for transport

She was educated at Oakwood Comprehensive School – and therefore becomes the first ever education SoS to be educated at a comprehensive

She campaigned to Remain in the EU referendum

At LGBT Pride this year, she announced that she was in a ‘happy same-sex relationship’ saying ‘I campaigned for Stronger In but sometimes you're better off out!’ – she became the first openly gay or bisexual female member of the UK cabinet

In her new role as Minister for Women and Equalities, she is also the first openly LGBT person to hold this post

She has said little publically about education, speaking more about international schools in her role at DIFID

She speaks passionately about social mobility (rather than social justice per se), saying she admires Thatcher’s understanding of mobility and feels it’s been lost from the current Tory party

    Theresa May’s views on education

“ We will give parents more opportunity to make a real choice about their child’s education by allowing individual foundations, companies, charities and religious groups to run new and existing state schools within a tax funded education system” (2001)

“We need free schools that are completely self-governing and where teachers are trusted to get on with the job. Free schools will also receive their funding direct and based on a national funding formula” (2001)

Educated at private and grammar school, which then became a comprehensive

Supported the expansion of Tonbridge Grammar school in her own constituency of Maidenhead (comprehensive system), 70 miles away

Has suggested police commissioners should run AP free schools

Her long term advisor Nick Timothy is currently Director of the New Schools Network – the charity that promotes free schools

Nick has argued that free schools should allowed to be selective and that faith free schools should have their cap on faith admissions lifted

What does this all mean for education policy?

As early as 2001, May has spoken about free schools – we can certainly expect the free schools policy to continue

What is less clear is how May and Greening will take forward the academisation of maintained schools – will they still seek the powers to turn schools in ‘underperforming’ and ‘unsustainable’ LAs into academies – or abandon this policy?

With uncertainty about the economy following Brexit we are unlikely to see a national funding formula realised before 2019 at the earliest

May has been a vocal supporter of grammars, although her choice of comprehensive-educated Greening is interested. However, Greening’s preoccupation with social mobility is important

I think it is likely that selective education will be reintroduced through the free schools programme, with new ‘grammar schools’ (or expansions of current grammars) being able to admit students on aptitude – but we will have to see

    Other key developments

The DfE’s remit has been massively expanded to include the HE and skills portfolio (previously with BIS)

This will make it one of the largest departments in Whitehall

We will likely know the full ministerial team at the DfE by the weekend, or early next week

Stephen Crabb has resigned his post as Works & Pension Minister because of a 'sexting' scandal.
