    Charity Bike Ride

I know you can't go very far these days without somebody shaking a tin under your nose so please forgive me for doing it on here.

I am riding in the Help for Heroes Battlefield bike ride this year. For those that don't know this is a charity which helps out veterans who have been injured both physically and mentally.

I'm doing this as mental health and head injuries are often the last for people to seek help and with over 60,000 of our ex-servicemen with mental health issues, homeless or in prison this is a problem worth highlighting.

There is a just giving page here.

Those of you who have met me will know what a fine athlete I am and all of you are welcome to scoff and chortle or even watch in horror as a man built for stability is going to ride a bike for more than 100 metres as your donations will be very much appreciated.

If a mod could pin this that would be great.

I have my road bike hooked up to the turbo trainer right now but I don't think I'm going to use that for the ride as it's a bit old and will be completely knackered by June.

    So I'm looking right now.

Only about 4-500. Not huge amounts but I don't think ultra-lightweight gears/ parts are going to help me too much when I'll be pottering along. I'm not exactly Simon Yates!

    New or second hand?

Decathlon are releasing a new range next month I think. Getting good reviews.

Actually it looks like the new Decathlon bikes are out now.

If at all possible, it might be worth upping your budget as this is a hell of a lot of bike for the money. Carbon forks, compact chainset etc.

    https://www.decathlon.co.uk/triban-r...421&type=opeco

Shimano 105 Groupset (normally on bikes around the 1000 mark), carbon forks, 6061 frame, campact chainset with an 11-32 cassette (that will get you up any climb).

If Specialized, Trek or Canyon had made that spec bike you'd be looking at over a grand, imo.

Randomly Specialized have a shop in Stafford. Might be worth going in to do some testing since it's a long ride

Will donate later on this week!

I didn't know that! The Allez series should fall into your price range, Johnny.

It's really bizarre. No idea why it's there as its usually empty. Decent price to service bikes too - get mine done properly once a year there.
