I would say they were winning the ball but not able to do anything with it, they were going all out to try and break them early but the NZ defence was brilliant and that more than attack will win you matches.

It was fairly far out wasn't it?

New Zealand are the masters of leaving a forward "getting back" with his hands in the air, right in the path between scrum half and first receiver. Done it for years and hardly ever get pinged.

They're shitheads, play nice rugby at times but get away with rediculous amounts of crap.

One pass looks like it’ll cost SA here.

All in all a cracking first 24 hours of the tournament, with four very enjoyable games. Roll on tomorrow. Not sure I will be getting up at stupid o clock for Italy v Namibia though.

Good start by Ireland but now they are getting a little sloppy which is allowing Scotland to creep back into the game.

And then a third Irish try. Bit lucky that their hack through hit the post rather than went dead to get the five metre scrum, but they finished it well.

This could be about damage limitation for Scotland already.

Scotland have made shocking decisions. Ireland have been fairly average but have put pressure on Scotland which has forced the errors.

Both teams need to up their game as the tournament goes on.

Scots have barely been in Irelands half. Very poor.

They are dreadful. I can see Japan beating them quite comfortably and taking their quarter-final place.

It would be awesome. In all likelihood it would result in Japan getting to play the All Blacks in the quarters which would be a great tournament for them.

With the plans to reduce the impact in rugby (rightly imo) I can see the Japanese style catching on hopefully.

Still a decent start though in terms of territory and a lot of attacking intent. But you are right, this indiscipline would be costly against the best sides in the competition.

Lovely second try there. The timing of the passing was perfection.

The tackles they have checked have proved to be fine, but that first tackle on Binny was a no-arms bash that they didn't check. However, it's not been a dirty game, just hard.

I understand that Reece Hodge has been cited for his no-arms high tackle on a Fijian player yesterday that ended that player's game.

He has, and absolutely correctly. Face high shoulder charge with no attempt to wrap arms at all.

Thought the Tongan one today was an excellent decision by the New Zealand ref. Took his time to take all the heat out of the situation, and then the England player falling to his knees trying to keep the ball under control was what brought the high element into play when the tackle was aimed at waist height really.

England should now get a bonus point in the bank over the remaining time in the match. Tonga aren't really in the game, and England are doing enough. ideStill plenty more to come from Eddie Jones' side.

That's better. The bonus point is likely to be important to ensure there is no danger of a three-way scrap at the top of the pool.
