Incidentally James McClean lost possession 26 times in this match.

    26. About once every three and a half minutes.

What is his claim to fame, exactly? I don't remember him pulling up trees at any club.

    Being extremely irish.

His main real claim is his refusal to wear the poppy, which gets people all sorts of bent out of shape. Says nothing about his playing prowess at all, which is mediocre at best.

Did well at Sunderland when he first broke through for about half a season, not a fan of poppies, makes cowardly leg breaking style tackles

Runs in perfectly straight lines, like on Super Cup football.

Ah ok, so Doc might be straight back out again for Tuesday then, doesn’t sound like he did enough today to keep the shirt.

He didn't as he's not a left back and Enda Stevens is.

He did ok, within reason because you can't judge him on this. Park Conor Coady in midfield for England and I doubt he'll be lighting up the place.

Probably would have been an improvement on what Rice, Hendo and Mount served up last night to be fair!

Joao and Rui playing for Portugal. Losing 2-0, but they'll still be fine for qualification

Predictably enough, Doc back on the bench tonight.

Ryan Giles got 35 minutes for the England U20s last night in their 3-0 defeat to Czech Republic.

Switches to the 3-5-2 that suits him and then drops him. Fair enough I guess

Coleman is captain though, no chance he is getting dropped.

I would not want Doc at LWB.

Oh I agree but captain or not is Coleman better than Doc in that formation?

Two games to go...huge amounts at stake...no way any international manager is chucking out someone with Coleman's experience for a novice at national level. Just wouldn't happen.

Got to remember as well that we don't use wing backs in the same way that Mick is likely to use them. Again, you wouldn't want Doc slinging crosses over all night from deep positions as he's no good at it.

This is football, captain means fuck all. Pick your XI, then give one of them the armband.

I've seen plenty of players lead teams on the pitch. Some of them were armbands, some of them didn't.

Coleman has been a narky little prick all night and ends up sent off for hand ball. Could probably have gone earlier for some niggley digs at Swiss players

They can put him at RB if they really want to (they abandoned 3-5-2 after less than half an hour of this one)...but he hasn't played there regularly since 2014 and he wasn't very good then.
