    The Soccer Gambling Thread

I got into matched betting this season but after I'd made a few hundred quid I started to actually gamble as well. Being unemployed and with a few k in the bank I'm having some time off from doing much of anything.

Most days I check the bookies I'm signed up to for special offers/price boosts etc. Even the regular free goes on slots and casino can net a few quid and I'm not talking about offers that have wagering requirements (that are so high you'll almost always loose) but just free spins or whatever that pop up.

A good example might be today. Coral do a bet club, you back 25 worth of bets Sun to Sat and on Sunday you get a free (stake not returned) 5 bet. Coral's odds are usually poor but today I found, by luck more than anything, that I could back Liverpool to win and then lay the bet on the exchange for zero cost (actually a profit of 20p or something). As I hadn't used Coral since last week I stuck the required 25 on it. That then got me a 5 bet tomorrow and also gave me a 1 no wagering requirements go on live casino. 1 on casino I used in 5 20p single numbers (roulette) and didn't win but that last time I got that I made 6. The fiver I'll punt on something that I'll hope to bring in 20-30. Probably.

Over last nights and today's games I've pulled in just over 103 which brings my profit for the season to about 850.

What I'm hoping is that some other people on here gamble a lot so we can trade knowledge. I keep an eye on football news but as I read a lot on the forums I know that there many folk on here that read and watch a lot more than me.

I did matched betting via OddsMonkey for a couple of months last year when I was off work and made about 3k, largely thanks to being able to bankroll my exchange account to a decent level when I started rather than building up slowly from a small stack.

It starts to slow right up once all the new customer offers dry up though, and you need to pursue other avenues such as slots. I went back to work though and lost interest. It can also take up a fair amount of your day planning, checking, and then watching everything live to keep an eye on it. Mornings/afternoons looking at racing, evenings looking at football etc. Plus I had a spreadsheet where I tracked absolutely everything I bet down to the penny to calculate my P&L, which also took up time keeping up to date every day.

And eventually you get restricted (gubbed) by bookies. Luckily I only had that happen twice, once because of betting silly non-rounded stakes (PaddyPower) making it obvious what I was doing, and once because I hammered a new customer offer, won and drew out instantly (Betway).

Now I'm just back to being a mug punter again!

That's cool Bear, I'm doing much less matched betting and much more punting. But I'm funding a lot of the punting with MBing.

Anyway, I'm interested in what people are punting! If I can help anyone who might want to do matched betting then I will but lets see if we can talk about some clever ways to punt.

Tomorrow we got Charlton v Preston.

Bet365 have an offer where if you back either team to win in a single they pay out as if you won if that team goes two goals up.

The odds atm: Charlton 2.9 Preston 2.45

The lay odds (against) are 3.1 and 2.66

So backing Charlton 50 on B365 and laying them 48.33 on the exchange means you will loose 1.67 if it say finishes 1-0.

Not very interesting I hear you cry! But wait

If Charlton go two goals up early then you get paid out as if they already won! Then if Preston get a goal back, again it needs to be fairly early in the game, you can cancel out the lay bet and you'll be up.

Personally in this game I think it more likely that Preston will go ahead and then get pegged back. That's the kind of thing I want to discuss. Do you (anyone else, not just The Bear) think it more likely to be the other way around? Do you know more than me about those teams? Quite possibly you do!

So, say I back Preston 50 at 2.45 the lay is 2.66. This means that unless the goals go in right I'm looking at a loss of 3.49 but if Preston go 2-0 and then Charlton pull it back to 2-2 I win 72.50 on Bet365 and the 46.05 I layed on the exchange whilst only risking 3.49

It gets more interesting as you can cash out the back bet and the lay bet whenever you like so if your keeping an eye on the game you can make money even if it doesn't go from 0-2 to 2-2 or even if it finishes 1-1. But you would then be risking a larger amount of cash. Possibly a much larger amount. I've lost a lot by cashing out of games but generally I'm winning. And I'm winning enough from that to fund proper punting bets.

So today I had a tenner on a special price boost on Sky: Liverpool & Brighton to win and Arsenal to draw with Wolves @ 11.00 and a tenner on Christian Pulisic To Score & Each Team Over 1 Card @ 13.00 on William Hill. But I lost money on other bets so finished the day up 103

I used to make reasonable money on 2up and also on 14up for the NFL (that's what PaddyPower gubbed me for).

You have to cover a lot of games to make it worthwhile though as it doesn't happen that often and it's easy to miss them when it does happen.

I just can't be bothered to bet on anything I'm not actually interested in. W Hill kept offering me bet 5 on NFL get a 2 bet and I just never bothered.

With the 2ups if I'm concentrating on the game then I will cash out the back or lay depending. Obvs this is risking a large amount of cash but it usually works. Also the Bet365 bore draw offer can work for me. Basically backing and laying gets me on the game for a very small risk and then keeping an eye on the game I'll take a big risk. But like I said it works. Made reasonable sums from that on Preston and Leicester but none of my other bets have done much for me overall today

Andy, you talking choosing your own accas or offers on set ones? Out of interest. Personally I've found the large odds boosts that I look for are fewer during the internationals
