I thought his first half performance was excellent. Still a work in progress and his final ball needs refining but he's looking 10 times the player at inside forward than anywhere he played last season or at RWB.

    70/71 finished 4th (equal 3rd on pts).
71/72 finished 9th (with a runners up in the UEFA Cup Final - Europa League equivalent)
72/73 finished 5th (with semi final appearance in both the League Cup & FA Cup when all teams had a go from the early rounds)

69/70 Wolves were consistently in the top 6 for 2/3s of the season before they fell away to 13th and in 73/74 they were mostly mid-table (finished 12th) but did win a major trophy - the League Cup.

Yes more teams had a chance as the game didn't have so much money concentrated with a handful of clubs who buy up all the best players - talent was more evenly spread across many clubs.

Our current team is better coached, with a far superior keeper and a much sounder defence; the midfield is interesting as Neves and Moutinho are genuine stars but Bailey, McCalliog and Hibbit would consistently score more goals (well the last 2 for sure).

Up front it's again difficult to compare as Richards and Dougan were arguably the best 2 strike force in Europe for close to 2 seasons, supported by the best winger I've ever seen in Wolves colours in Waggy; but then Raul, Jota and finally Traore are bringing something special to the table; but the EARLY 70s team had more goals in them but then they'd concede a few more as well.
I was only a teenager at the time, and a lot of water has passed through my brain since, but my recollection is that McGarry team was at the peak of its powers in that period. I'm not saying we will be regularly finishing top four or ever winning the Champions League, but this team has real potential to get better. Of all the Wolves teams I've watched since I started in 1967, this is the one that excites me the most.

Love the way we're starting games now, we were by far the better team, second half we conservred energy a bit and made it a bit more tense, Rui had one sharp save to make and who says if they had equallized we wouldnt have had a right go at em and won anyway.

5th as it stands 3 points better off than last year and we've only just got going. COYW
We will get 50pts (I worked it out on my computer) W13 D11 L14

Not sure Adama’s final ball actually needs refining, we just need to adapt our play to it more.

But like with Jarvis and fletcher. When he hits the byline the only thing he can do is stand it up so Fletcher used to peel off to the back-post every time. Adama is very similar if slightly less reproducible so the players need to have a little more savvy in making the best of these opportunities

I never did hold with building a team around a player, that player should fit into a team. He can make some brilliant crosses but the chipped rubbish doesn't work for Raul and if we're basing our team around players then I'll build it around Raul first.

I'm sure Traore can make better decisions.

Bournemouth 1 Wolves 2: The verdict thread

We need to give him the balls in different areas - do as yesterday for our second and it works well, express pace followed by a slight slow down then placed cross. Give it him level with the penalty box and the express pace gets him past the player but he has no time to slow down and look up so lofts it in (I would say on instruction as Nuno recognises the issue)

Was just a few years older then & one of the times I attanded often. That was a very good team, but a somewhat more level playing field than the current day.

The team we have now is overall better though you could find a place for some of the early 70's squad in the present one.
This year we will mainly be conquering Europe

Thankfully we are not likely to spunk ridiculous money on a ' Maguire' but I would imagine a couple arriving in January - particularly agree that Neves and Moutinho need someone in there with them. The players are likely to get leggy so I guess there will be a lot of thought going into managing their fitness. Can't see us taking the FA Cup that seriously in the early rounds. We're halfway to the magical total well before November and please don't anybody be cynical about our chances of winning the Europa Cup. As far as I am concerned it's on ...

A vile, horrible side and this seems to be missed as they're seen as the cuddly, lovely ' up against it ' club. The game at Molineux where Van La Parra was sent off was the angriest i've seen Molineux (To a man).

I think he chips it in because when he puts some sting on the cross it tends to end up way beyond the back post. Maybe that's his 2020 semester material as we don't want to overload him.

Still, I think his new hairstyle is his Pokemon level-up.
