West Ham (A) Build Up and Matchday Thread

I couldn't see a thread for this so thought I'd start one (for the first time!).

    I predict a 1-0 win (Jota).

Interesting to read West Ham views :-

I’d very much hope we’ll be raring to go by the time this kicks off, as I have huge faith and confidence in our fitness team to have them peaking for the game, and everyone knows their place in the system - I’ve only seen one friendly game lined up though (forest) where a few other prem teams have already been playing, that’s the only thing that bothers me slightly.

    Who has been playing?

All i have seen is games arranged for the coming week as long as no positive tests at each club.

I have no worries on how prepared we will be nor our fitness but I do think we will see some odd results in the first few round of games as teams settle into the oddness.

Can’t have anything but utmost confidence that everyone at the club are daring to go and will have set up perfectly, we are really bloody good at it lately. 2-0 to us, Jimenez and Jota.

Villa have played Albion (and drew), not sure about any other games.

The fans can be pretty toxic at West Ham, so it's a pity it's an empty stadium as they will probably be more relaxed.

I think there are too many intangibles to have a firm view on this. I don't see West Ham losing home advantage, since they've moved they don't really have one. We are a better side, but in this environment it remains to be seen how much that counts for. We didn't play well against Olympiakos, how much of that was down to strerile atmosphere?

My only confident prediction would be the starting 11.

We have better players and a better manager, so should win.

As others have said, it wonít be that straightforward as players get used to the new circumstances. We have the Europa game under our belt but it was ages ago now so probably wonít have much impact.

Iím going to go for a cagey 1-0 win.

West Ham are probably used to playing with no atmosphere so shouldnít be a loss for them.

i note the game is on sky, but thought it had been said at some point that these games would be shown on terrestrial tv due to the grounds being closed.

There are 25 games on Sky that will be available through Sky Pick. 4 on the beeb, 4 on Amazon. Those are the free to air. None of our games so far (one on normal Sky two on BT)

It's obviously had to predict who will perform best in these unprecedented circumstances. We are a better team than them clearly, but we were very subdued in that Olympiakos game. That could be more to do with the uncertainty around the virus though, now we know they will only play against players who have tested negative, in an environment that is doing its utmost to ensure the safety of the players.

I think the teams who do best in this period will be the best conditioned ones, who pick up the least injuries. It's going to be so tough to a) player at full capacity on such limited preparation and b) playing this amount of games in such a short time span. What gives me confidence is that we have arguably the best fitness team (in large part for how closely integrated they are into the coaching) in the league. It will be tough with a small squad but if we can keep everyone fit, fresh and sharp it could also be an advantage.

West Ham have a terrible injury record in recent years as it is, so hard to imagine they will be in tip top shape. We will see I guess!

We didn't want to play the game and that showed. It should not havebeen played and once it was in the heads of the players that they didn't want to play it, it was always an uphill task to play like we can. We weren't shit that day but the 10 men helped our cause somewhat

Far too optimistic on here, so I'm going with 'we never start well after a break' so struggle to a 1-0 win

On paper our first 3 are the easiest games we have left, so if we're going to keep in contention we do need to hit the ground running (literally)

Having said that, it's hard to say just exactly how each team will react, so maybe it's not so cut and dry.

We've had them over a barrel since we came back up but then was under Pellegrini - not a cat in hell's chance they'll be as wide open under Moyes. I'd say a 1-0 would be about right, we'll have to scrap for it.

Was watching some of the Sky 30 minute highlights last night of our games. It reminded me how many times we have conceded first this season and how many times VAR has had our pants down. Can't wait to get furious over both of these things again in about 12 x days!

Both sides will be a bit rusty, but Wolves players have a greater understanding of their roles (& have all season compared to WH) - doubt that there will be many big wins in the early games, but man for man we are better than them so a 0 - 2 or 1 - 2 win for us.
This year we will mainly be conquering Europe

(paused for the moment, but hopefully to be continued)
