Aston Vile 0 v 1 Wolves - The Verdict Thread

We're not even having to get out of second gear at the moment, yet another routine win where we didn't really have to try. Villa were beyond bad and they're down, Smith knows it and hasn't got a clue what to do.

Jonny MOTM with Dendoncker a close second behind. Beautiful goal from every aspect.

We just control the game so well... Rui made a save in the first half from greasy and I don't remember him making another. Controlled his area really well (again)
    We really are quite good
Wolves have ambition and wit... why is it such a crime?

Not a great game or performance really, but what was expected all the same. We've been so efficient since the restart and we've yet to look troubled in any of the matches. Gonna have to be better in the next three against better opposition, but pretty much impossible to complain with how things have gone since football came back.

Very comfortable. Perfect really that we’ve been able to navigate these three games without over exerting ourselves. Now got a week to rest and recover and go up a gear for the next batch of games, as they will be tougher physical battles I think.

Dendoncker was superb he did a job on Grealish and then the goal was so well taken on his left foot. Such a quality player to have when you consider he can play multiple positions too.

Played 19,18 & 17th since returning and beaten all 3 in at best 3rd gear. We’re a very intelligent side and game manage really well.
I said that one goal would settle to today and for once I was proved right, not a great game at all but we just have that extra bit of quality in the final 3rd, that’s what’s counted in the last 3 games.
Yes Villa restricted us at times but it counts for nothing if you’re toothless at the other end.
Donck MOTM did his job superbly and a great finish. Nuno tactics were spot on Grealish was kept quiet and in most parts we controlled midfield.

Villa, Bournemouth & West Ham have all looked bang average. Another very professional performance by Nuno’s men.

Id still have preferred us to go into the last ten with a 2 goal cushion though.

Lot of positives. I think the situation and atmosphere has really suited us, we like to up the intensity in the second half and grow into the game. You can see us improving after that first drinks break, we were playing some nice stuff by the end of the first half. Good finish by Dendoncker to cap off a good move, very comfortable. Justifies the decision to start him and he kept Grealish quiet (really needs to stop dropping so deep, he is nowhere near as good as he thinks he is). Excellent game management at the end to seal the win.

The Relegation thread on Villa Talk is bizarre from this post on.

To be fair to the scrote he had no choice.

When the line ups were announced I was impressed Villa had seemingly gone for it. 2 up top and Grealish playing off them. They then proceeded to play hoof ball and as we won 95% of those balls it took Grealish out of the game so he had to start coming deep to get the ball and when he has it there and zero movement ahead of him he is a passenger.
Villa made it easy for us today. Their set up should have meant we had some work at the back but it really was simple to deal with.

Grealish needs to be in a side where he’s not so relied on. He plays like he has to do everything. In the long run it’ll do Villa good to build a balanced side not so reliant on him.

Exactly. These made me chuckle. Completely delusional.

The way it is, we own Jack Grealish. The owners have said irrelevant what league we play in now or next year he will cost anyone £80m.
Grealish is one of the best players in the league, wanted by some of the best clubs in the world, he's a very unique player that offers something that very few, if any other players can offer, no way he's going to go for as little as £50m, Man Utd had to pay that to buy Wan-Bissaka, that's just one example, if you look at all the players that Premier league sides paid £50m plus for last summer Grealish is better than them all

Very satisfactory result and top class coaching and game management. Just read the matchday thread and surprised its so negative, talk of lazy play and not getting going....its not the 50's, we've been playing this style since Nuno took over, think people better used to a pragmatic, controlled style or they'll be disappointed every week. Some saying Villa matched us! Get a grip, we never looked under pressure and created a number of good attacking moments which unfortunately didn't quite come off. I know this style takes some getting used to but it is the Nuno way and he won't change it while its so effective.

    A few things.
Played 3 at the bottom and without getting out of 2nd gear have won all 3.

Vill restricted us today without ever threatening, they reall needed a win, probably should have gone for it more but that would have left massive gaps and we would probably have scored more.

One scrote on their forum reckoned they dominated the 2nd half at Molineux.

Not sure what game he was watching it certainly was not the same one the rest of the world watched.

Grealish is a diving prick at least three times he was not fouled yet dived like an Olympic high board.

Villa are really bad, they are not staying up and Grealish will certainly leave, he has some talent but needs to stop diving

I think everytime we’ve beaten one of Dean Smiths sides he’s made excuses or made out he was hard done by. Remember the famous whaaaabulance game at the banks he came out with similar crap and about how they matched us and that we were just better defensively and in the final 3rd. So basically saying we deserved to win.

A fabulous goal worthy of winning any game. Another comfortable victory and another clean sheet. As others have alluded to as talented a player Grealish is he unbalanced them dreadfully by roaming anywhere he pleases. A free role in a relegation threatened side when they are playing two up front is a luxury they can’t afford.
I think he rules the roost at the club and can do as he wants. It will be interesting to see him at a better club and how he copes with a more disciplined role.

The other thread is locked and Smith is delusional, but just as a point of order he didn't sign those players, he gets what he's given. They went on a Fulhamesque Easter egg hunt and are likely to get the same result.

We've not played well offensively in any of the three games so far, but have found the odd moment required. The defence has played well all season, now we aren't letting soft goals in though so the 1-1's are 1-0's.

Nuno is managing games tremendously, there's another couple of gears in there, I think you'll see them against Arsenal when we'll be back to 343

It kinda feels like those 3 games were our mini pre-season to get back up to pace, and we've got ourselves 9pts for playing them...now on to the important work!

Smith is own worst enemy though Tony. Thought that he could compete playing open football and has waited too long to adopt a more cautious approach. By doing so now they carry little threat and time is running out for them.

Arsenal are the dream opponent, same as last year. They play like they are a to top team but donít have the players to back it up. So we should have joy on the counter. Particularly as theyíve got 2 games between then and now and not much depth.

Even if we get a point Vs Arsenal the next game could be ideal. Sheffield United have looked awful since the restart and if they don't best Spurs on Thursday their season is over.

This is the problem this approach may have got him more points especially away from home, they’re now in a must take risk scenario. 6 games to go against Liverpool, Man Utd, Palace, Everton, Arsenal and West Ham. They’re going to have to beat palace and West Ham and either draw another 3 or beat Arsenal. That only puts them upto 36 points. That may be enough because West Ham and Bournemouth are that bad.

It's cute that they think Grealish won't force a move away.

Agreed, but his ego won't let him NOT be the guy who is relied on, IMO.

It's even more cute that they think they'll get £80m for him and that £50m would be terrible business. I don't get the love in with him myself, he'll be washed up within three years.
