    Profanity filter added

I know its something a lot of users have asked for, but it hasnt been available...until now.

You can turn it on, or off, via your profile. Theres a pretty limited set of words filtered at the moment, so if you see anything missing, let us know and we *might* add it.

    The option is at: http://www.wolvesforum.co.uk/profile.php?do=editprofile

Couple of points I'd like to make:

    1. Just because the more delicate of us can have their sensibilities protected doesnt mean that its a free for all for everyone else. Casual viewers will see posts in their unfiltered glory, and we dont want to drive away potential members

    2. Dont try and defeat the swear filter. Im not sure why anyone would want to foist their own profanities on those who would rather not see them, but its still a crappy thing to do, and we'll take measures if we see it.

    As ever, comments/suggestions welcome....

Took me about 5 minutes to find where you do turn it off! If Frank ever wanted to (I don't for one minute imagine he will) he'll be there all week...

either i've got it completely wrong, or it was a doddle.
i found it easy, it said turn on, i switched it to turn off, and away we went, i hope.
with all Frank's sneaky, under the counter IT training, he'll still take a week ha ha ha ha

I would like to place on record that I do not agree with this.

Nor me really. Most of the regular 'swearers' have toned it down after our polite request and anyone who is offended by the occasional 'fuck' is being too precious. But there we go.

I can't see the problem. If you turn it off it's no difference to how it was before.

Lets not get too precious about this folks. I think it is a good thing that people have the option. That way, you choose it to suit you.

In the bigger picture, I feel it is good for the board as a whole that though "they" (ie the percieved "holders of power") may disagree with this option, the option is still being given to users.

Either way you look at it - a good thing imo.

Quite agree, I'm not sure whether it was AstroTrader or Astoria that said they don't come on here very often because they are usually on it with their son and they didn't like their son to see the swearing. It isn't going to discourage people coming on her, but it might encourage people to come on here.

No issue whatsoever for me - I can see the sense in such a feature, and think posters have made sensible comments on this thread. I'll be turning it off personally.

And it might make Frank happy!

I've turned mine off, but as it's optional to each individual member, and we have some lady members, then where's the problem?

    nice option Vis.

I don't really like censorship, that's my issue, and I thought we were doing a decent job of keeping the dirty words out by controlling ourselves as and when.

But, it ain't my forum, I just act as janitor.

I would have thought you prefered it on. You only need to find it if your turning it off.

I can indeed see a certain word, unfortunately.

Del Woppio ( what a wonderful name) how on earth did you do that?

Been thinking about this DW. In a devils advocate kinda way, could you see how not giving someone the option is a form of censorship? As it is only giving them 1 way to view the forum - "my way of the highway..."

The filter allows self restraint - I can choose what I want to read, & what I don't.

DW, the normal swear words aren't a problem, even for the female members on the forum.
But we had a thread re a certain "C" word, many moons ago, and most people chose afterwards, not to use it, especially all of our female members.

It seems to be one of your favourite words, ok fair play to you, and now you are free to carry on using it, despite the majority feeling.

Most of us will continue to see it and choose to ignore it, our ladies now have the choice to choose not to see it. How can you possibly object to that?

I have waited to type this comment for a week or two to see what happened, i have now typed it, with no doubts or regrets.

    Try this:

Click on Settings in the top right corner. Click on Edit Profile on the left hand side and it should be at the bottom of the page.

If that doesn't work I will see if I can do it behind the scenes.

I cannot see any reason why you shouldn't be able to turn it off. I'm not sure there's any way I can do anything either from what I can see.

Just a quick point really. When I log on to the home page this shows swear words in the preview of recent posts however the swear words are &^%$^&$ out when I read the actual posts. Can the swear filter be added to the homepage?
