Thought we should have a build up thread for this one as we didn't for the Preston game...

The only changes we need to be thinking about really are Douglas/Vinagre and N'Diaye/Saiss. The rest of the team still picks itself. I'd personally stick to an unchanged team.

This will be my first game in ages and I am very much looking forward to it!

Swapping Saiss and Alf around will be the only change.

I'd have Vini start too, we lose some forwarding running by playing Saiss, and Douglas, other than fks, offers nothing going forward.

I think Saiss has to start because we cant empty central midfield against Norwich they have enough quality to run us around a bit. His range of passing and defensive discipline could prove decisive. Bonatini if fit would also enable better passing and change of tempo in the opponents half.

I can see Leo (if fit, thinking about it) starting this one and then Afobe starting on Saturday.

I don't think Nuno will change Douglas unless he is at risk of injury or knackered. Saiss in for N'Diaye maybe.

Vinagre in Baz out deffo Saiss back in for Alf, I would stick with front 3 as Costa is getting back to his best.

I wouldn't change the front 3. Saiss for N'Diaye the only change to the XI for me.

Pretty much everything decent Norwich do goes through Maddison player of real quality. I’d put Saiss back into the holding role again apart from that same as usual.

So that’s everybody agreed on Saiss coming back in then.

Apart from Glasgow.

Nuno seems willing to give players a bit of leeway, but after N'Daiye's performance on Saturday there must be a good argument to start Saiss if he's fully fit. That said, we haven't actually lost any of the league games in which Alf has deputised, and Saiss was holding the position during our non-blip when we didn't look quite as good as usual. Still think Saiss is the better option in that role, though.

i would prefer Alf to play when we expect the opposition to sit back, otherwise Saiss

Yep, it'll be a different game to Preston and I think Saiss will be more useful.

I'd also argue that Vinagre would offer us more attacking impetus but then Douglas does have such a superb assist record. Tough call.

Barry 1st 14 games - 2 goals, 8 assists
Barry 2nd 14 games - 2 goals, 2 assists

Since that spell where we scoring for fun in November, a lot of goals were coming from corners and set pieces (Norwich, Fulham, Leeds, Bolton we scored nearly half those goals from set pieces). Yet since then, other than Bristol we haven’t looked that dangerous from Douglas set pieces, particularly corners. I don’t think his position in the team is bulletproof because of set pieces because for one they aren’t that fruitful at the minute and secondly Cavaleiros delivery is just as good and Neves isn’t bad on FKs...

I'm not sure where this opinion of Saiss that he doesn't join in attacks comes from. He does it more than Neves and often pops up on the edge of the box or even in it. He gets involved in plenty of attacks, as he did when he came on Saturday.

I aint saying Saiss doesn't come forward but IMO N'Diaye is better coming forward.

Problem is that as we set him up on the right hand side of the two in midfield, if he drives forward (and he doesn't do it very often) then he ends up in a position where he can't do anything useful as his right foot is just for standing on. Was a big issue against Forest when we were looking for a goal.

If we're looking for a more attacking player than Saiss, then I'd like to see MGW given a chance alongside Neves personally. Think he offers more creativity and technical ability in the final third than either Saiss or ALF.

If we're exercising caution owing to both Neves/Saiss being so close to suspensions, and/or Saiss' recovery from injury, I'd still be inclined to go for MGW.

Bennett Coady Boly
Doherty MGW Neves Douglas
