Another step on the road - not dominant, but good enough

Given that we have only conceded 6 goals in 8 matches this is what our performances are built on

7th place now & no reason to think that we cannot finish there

Not at our best, won and could have won by more... 8 games, 6 goals conceded and 15 points. I'll take that :windmilling:

great result from a sub par performance. we couldn't seem to hold the ball much at all. most disappointed with defenders who had un challenged free headers and couldn't find a gold shirt - not once but nearly every time. Cav unlucky with his shot though, but thought Diogo is struggling a bit. end of the day it doesn't make a difference , we won....again.

What a team!

Amazingly, their is plenty of things for us to improve on and grow as a team. We certainly aren't the finished article from what Nuno wants but we ain't half bad as it is.

Their 442 caused us some issues especially early on and they did a good job on starving Neves and Moutinho of the ball. Moment of quality from Raul, RUben with the switch, and of course Neymar at right wing back!

MOTM - Coady or Boly I'd say. Defensively we were excellent as usual.

Thought we played fantastically given the conditions. Clearly not ideal for us or our players. Pitch looked ropey and very small too.

We never really looked in trouble, defended very well when needed and broke quickly and incisively. Perfect away performance.

Liked the look of their RB.

Delighted with the victory and the three points. We've waited years to get a side who can perform week in week out in the PL, grinding results out even when we're not at our best. 6 clean sheets in our last 7 matches, 4 of those in the PL. Nuno & Fosun have given us what we've all craved for so long - and the scary thing is, we are right at the start of the journey and if the start of this season is anything to go by, we're only going in one direction.

Coady MOTM today - he was superb and Southgate looks an even bigger belmer than he did before kick off.

Well done Matt Doherty - delighted for him, and once again Raul showing the composure to required to play in one of his team mates. Very, very happy. Up to 7th...

I love this team.

I don't think we were wonderful again today, but probably did deserve to win. Just about.

Coady was fantastic. So calm under pressure and picks up all the pieces before they even hit the ground. MOTM for me.

A little confused at the Saiss sub though? He's not exactly the human battering ram that Alf was, and it just invited even more pressure onto us. Not sure we should do that again...says a lot when that's genuinely all I can think of to complain about. I am dreaming.

I fucking love this team. That is all.

Not our greatest performance by a long stretch but a thoroughly professional one. 2nd half turned into too much of a backs to the wall effort for my liking, feel like taking Raul off was a mistake as we lost our focal point up top and our game management in general became dreadful...easy example is Cav could've easily taken the ball into the corner in like the 93rd minute but we ended up giving away a FK to be lumped into our box (which, as it turns out, wasn't an issue - still though). We gave the ball away far too often and far too cheaply and invited pressure - seems like we can handle it but at this level you're only ever a half chance away from conceding.

Doherty should take a bow as he's more than holding his own at the moment, he's earning his plaudits and then some. Raul probably should've scored first half but another assist for him from another great layoff - 2 goals & 3 assists in 8 games is no bad return at all.

MotM probably Boly for me, just shading Coady.

A much, much better second half in all respects and a well-deserved three points. Lovely build-up to the goal and a great finish from Doc. Our defence looks more capable by the week. Again, a few slightly under-par performances, but absolutely good enough for today. We seem to be developing the knack of quietly accumulating points that we'd have thrown away in previous seasons. Couldn't be happier tonight.

My 'lucky' Wolves socks do it again :icon_biggrin: have to make sure that they are washed & ready for games (though if I'm being honest probably makes little difference, but superstistions are relevant!!)

Sounds like conditions were not ideal (& if it's as cold & wet there as it has been down here all day it's not a day you wanted to be playing football).

Solid at the back & never felt that Palace were going to breach our goal line - we need to take the chances we create, but as long as we keep the back door closed & double locked then we will always be in games with a chance.

Would be inclined to unleash Cav from the start next game - Jota has not really been on his game & Cav looks the most likely to produce a goal from the forward options we have available.

Watched the game here in Spain. Disappointing perfomance by our normal standards, too many wayward passes. Thought Jota was awful, shouldn't start next game. Great 3 points though.

A good team can win games even when you dont play great..top stuff :)

Agree on the Cav - Jota thing but also some other squad players like Traore, maybe Saiss..players get tired and good for morale for others to get gametime too

Only 33% possession today, but our defence has been magnificent. Coady MOTM today for me but Rui brilliant and so calm in everything he does, undoubtedly a great influence on the back three.

Slightly odd subs bringing Saiss on for Jimenez off as it did effect us, and Traore should have come on earlier. Also agree Cav should have taken the ball to the corner. Could have cost us but luckily it didn't.

Enjoy :)

A fabulous result and a professional performance to boot. The conditions were not ideal and both sides struggled at times with moving the ball. Early on Palace dominated possession but didn't really create anything and even when they did we had bodies in front of shots and of course Rui who made a cracking double save in the 2nd half. Despite the possession we created the better chances and Docs goal came from great link play with Jiminez (is that 2 goals and 3 assists now?) but the finish was a corker drilled into the corner.

We seemed to drop a little bit deep for my liking towards the end and as others have said the Saiss sub was a very odd choice but it doesn't matter as we have wrapped up another valuable 3 points.

MOTM - Boly - Absolute beast all game was it 13 million we paid for him?? what a bargain.

1 loss from 8 games is incredible given most of our team are new to the division, we are still improving too.....stick that up your pipe Mr Zinchenko!!

Really? That seems very harsh to me, he was involved in several good build ups and his work rate was top drawer.

I thought it was a par performance, solid, professional and did what we needed to in difficult weather conditions and against a robust opposition. Some of our passes weren't quite up to standard but then neither were Palace's.

Raul looks better game by game and he was my MotM.

Spot on Johnny, thought Jota looked good today - shattered by the end. Very difficult to play our normal game and passes in weather like that. We adapted and won.

Zinchenko should be annoyed that he wasn't prepared to take a chance & come here - pretty sure that we have not really lost anything that much, but he has given that not sure that he has played for MC in any important game
