The Cricket Thread

My son has just started learning cricket at school so I thought I’d put the end of today’s match on to see if he got into it.

We’ve spent the past half an hour playing cricket in his room with a rolled up piece of tin foil and a mini baseball bat :ROFLMAO:
All stars has just finished but if he likes cricket and is young enough definitely get him signed up for next season. It’s a really good way to get them enjoying cricket - plus it’s usually a Friday evening sat in the sun with a beer.

Test match? With the ball bearing and operating the batsmen with a string?
Great game
I had that too. Great days. The little ball bearings were easy to lose though after a fiercely batted away 6.

my dad went into ultimate competitive dad mode when we played that often bending the rules

Granddaughter has done that the last 2 years, she really enjoys it, not sure she'll go any further but she has a great time, it's a good set up.

Stafford, at least, has a very good girls set up - they have at least 10 to 15 training for their girls team. Only downside is they don’t get many games as there aren’t many other girls teams.

A few of the girls play in the U8s with my youngest too, good thing about cricket at that age is they all get chance to contribute.

He has football training on Friday evenings, plus he’s 10 so he’s too old for that by the looks of it.

Hopefully they keep offering cricket club after school once a week. I used to enjoy cricket when I was younger so it would be good for him to keep up his interest.

Ah shame - I’m always keen to get as many playing as possible as a lot of clubs are short. It’s possibly as youth football doesn’t seem to take a summer break any more?

Kids footy is a shocker for it. Play non stop start of Sep till the end of April (great), then demand all day tournaments on Saturdays and Sundays in June and July and bllcks to the summer games. All regardless of if the weather is acceptable for football too. It’s quantity not quality when it comes to training, and follows the general pattern of too much football full stop.

My son’s U11s football team still has training twice a week throughout the summer.

He’s had to do a tournament too. The coach is obsessed with trying to get friendlies arranged. It’s like we’ve got nothing else to do with our summer.

Great furst hour from England. Archer and Stokes brilliant.
Could be a run out on the cards the way these two are batting. Cats on hot tin roofs 🤯

I’ve watched about 2/3s of that session and missed every wicket. Missed that 30 min chaos and then stopped watching just before lunch. Hopefully cab get it done now without Jadeja spanking it round and Bumrah hitting a few lucky boundaries

Be interesting to see how Jadeja approaches it after lunch, caution to the wind or leave that till after Bumrah is out.

That Washington Sundar interview from yesterday has aged well. Some cricketing Mark McGhee PR.
