THE MAGIC NUMBER THREAD

Okay, we are half way, so I thought it would be a good time to set this up.

There are three magic numbers

1. The playoff magic number
2. The automatic promotion magic number
3, The title magic number

Everyone has 69 points to play for. As of now, number one is the maximum the team in 7th can get, minus the difference between our current total and theirs. Sheffield United are in 7th, with 38 points. Add on 69 points, and the maximum they can get this season is 107 points. Take off our current total of 54 points, and then the MAGIC NUMBER for the playoffs is currently 53.

For automatic, Derby on 44 points in third. The maximum they can get is 113. Minus our current 54, and the magic number for promotion is 59 points.

For the title. Cardiff are on 47 points, Their maximum total is 116. So the MAGIC NUMBER for the title is 62 points.

Using the last decade or so you would say 90 points gets us promoted so 36 from 23 or 1.55 per game.

Even Paul Lambert would manage that....

There's a fourth magic number - beating Reading's points haul. I think it's possible.

The fourth one is quite simple. Number doesn't reduce particularly, as it isn't dependent on other teams. Reading made 106 points, so the MAGIC NUMBER for that one is 53.

It'll be tough to match our first half total. Not only do we play more of the top teams away from home in the second half of the season, but fatigue and injuries could come into play too.

Plus if we keep extending our lead then we could take our foot off the gas towards the end.

The only magic number is 3 points in the next game. Do that and everything else takes care of itself, don't do it - well sort it out for the next game!

Hard to predict this one but 21 from 23 would make the play offs even Saunders would manage that.
Promotion 35 from 23 so basically the form of a side finishing 9/10.
Title 41 from 23 so play off form.
