    Cost of Living

There will be conditions around the sale, it was discussed on SKS thread around the Angela Rayner CGT issue. It’s one of the reasons she held onto it when she married MR and conveniently planted her brother in. I’m not a gambling man but I’ll take any odds anyone is willing to offer there is no...

    Cost of Living

No doubt at all it’s much harder now but whilst most people who’ve owned property for a long time have done very well, it’s worth remembering they will have ridden some rollercoasters that took them to the edge too. There is the massive interest rate fluctuations already spoken about by...

    The Velotard Thread.

Have always done basics like brake pad replacement and the likes, but decided to up the diy repair game as it felt like the bikes were always in the shop needing something doing and the costs were adding up. Bought some fairly cheap Amazon tools and set about changing bottom bracket, rear...

    Cost of Living

The instant affect of their actions were felt by everyone, but essentially most countries who did the post credit crunch low rate thing are experiencing much the same thing. I’m not defending them for a second and yes we have had it worse than most. It would be nice to shaft them for causing...

    Cost of Living

As I see it interest rates dropped to absurdly low and unsustainable levels post credit crunch, around 2008. They stayed there for 15 years or so which was long enough to feel very ‘normal’ for some, but still (absurdly) low to those long enough in the tooth to have experienced otherwise...

    Cost of Living

Funnily enough going to Vancouver and up to Anchorage in July, and a stop-off on the way back for a few days in Seattle seemed like a good idea. Jesus, that Seattle add-on is woundingly expensive. You’d struggle to get a hotel room in a good location for less than say, £250 a night. In...

    Cost of Living

My wife lived and worked in both Calgary and Vancouver with a view to emigrating permanently years ago. Both had huge draws, but essentially Calgary is far too cold for most of the year, and Vancouver is very expensive. BC is the place to be but if you want to live the Canadian life you thought...

    Tetchy Rish! at it again

Of course, there’s a multitude of reasons and we can isolate certain ones to suit our narrative, but you can’t suddenly implement S21 removal whilst simultaneously ignoring the affects of the last 45 years and be shocked at the outcome. It’s a desperately poorly thought out policy and the...

    Cost of Living

Blimey, what’s that, £50 a month on coffee… half a grand a year? I used to take a flask or have to use the cheap instant at work with the skanky spoons. Shows how times and expectations have changed though. The staff at the place my lad works at are up in arms because in a cost-cutting measure...

    Tetchy Rish! at it again

It’s as though no one could have predicted this would happen as S21’s are rushed in ahead of their removal. ""

The Pret subscription at £20 a month was awesome. 5 free drinks a day. The missus has one and we used to share it, was brilliant. It’s up to £30 now and in an attempt to stop the sharing each time you use it now you have to log in through the app. The drinks list is extensive with coffees...

    Cost of Living

Come to think of it we have coffee stops on rides two or three times a week, cafes, garden centres etc. The worst places are National Trust cafes. You won’t get any change out of a tenner for a coffee and a slice of cake in those places and they’re always packed. I’d rather go to ‘spoons.

    Cost of Living

I drink loads (too much) off the stuff and do watch the prices and ask myself if I really want one or if it’s just habit when out. At Victoria yesterday definitely wanted one for the ride home and deliberately went to the kiosk that was 30p cheaper than next door. Won’t make any difference but...
