Cost of Living

Some people are just so thick they don’t undestand how stupid their selfishness is. Few weeks back when it was all starting to kick off with the price rises there was a guy filling up his car and 2 Jerry cans at Texaco. I can only assume he was filling up the cans to save money which is stupid on multiple ievels as that Texaco is normally 10-15p more expensive than Tesco in town and even if fuel was to then jump up 30p overnight you saved yourself £3…

If someone said “fuel is going to run out forever” tomorrow then there would be idiots filling to their milk cartons and coke bottles to try get a few extra litres. Great, you’ve bought yourself an extra 50 miles of fuel. What you going to do for the next 40 years you moron!
 
I put £50 of diesel in mine the other day, I think the clock on the pump was being run by a Stihl saw, shot up to 50 in seconds. (harped back to the days when putting over £2 in meant you were going on a long journey )
 
I had to stick 3/4 of a tank in yesterday.

Noticed the sainsburys on the way to work has run out of fuel twice this week & wondered if it was a precursor to more panic buying.
 
our rent went up like 25% and the supply chain + russia stuff is definitely making it better... ugh.

fucking hate this area. can't wait to move. I should be living in a mcmansion or on some land for what we pay a month.

Rents are turning into a huge problem for the US. Minimum wage hasn't gone up since forever, huge companies buying up 'all' the new houses and bumping rents up. Biden will get the blame, but can't fix it even if he wanted to.
It's gonna be a big problem for a lot of people in a year or two.
 
I mean you don't have to tell me. :D

I wanted to buy after the last bubble, but the GF got cold feet and now we're completely frozen out of the market in our area. Our house income has gone up not insignificantly since then, and we're even further out from owning than we were back then.

Need legislation ASAP. Corporate entities shouldn't be in control of nationwide housing. Just another thing our brilliant free market is fucking everyone over with.

We're equally fucked in the UK, getting a deposit is next to impossible. I'm looking at a serious downsizing to quite uncomfortable levels (the partner doesn't like this either but gets it!) to focus on two years to build as much on savings as possible...just to buy via a sharetobuy scheme (London prices adding an extra dimension here). Urgh

Need legislation, but ain't gonna get it. Too many Republicans will complain about government interference, and probably too many centrist Democrats getting contributions from the corporations.

Dems need to solve this, the current system does not work so maybe it's time for a populist left wing takeover.
 
never gonna happen. we, along with the rest of the world, are trending in a direction and it's certainly not left.

democrats are fucking useless and won't get anything done, repubs will just make things worse after taking the majority back and then winning in 2024.

Yeah we're having to do similar shenanigans; our move is to move. Unfortunately we've been locked in this incredibly high priced area just outside of DC (which has the bonus of being boring), didn't want to uproot the kid during school. Already living pretty much as cheap as possible. He graduates in 2 months though, and then the job search is on so we can move somewhere cooler and/or more affordable.

Wherever that will be will certainly still be more expensive than it should be, but the current $2600/m being drained from us will at least be good enough to get us a house elsewhere.

Energy bill has gone up to £388 per month from £158 🙁. Partly due to my last supplier going bump and taking them ages to sort out the final bill and there being an o/s balance. I may be saving on fuel but charging a plug in has contributed to the increase.
 
FYI those with energy price rises. Managed to get a switch to Octopus yesterday - soon as it’s gone through I can get Octopus Go, which is very cheap between 00.30 and 04.30. If you can time your appliances etc this can save a fortune.

Look lads, just sit on a bus all day and then eat spaghetti hoops straight out of the tin when you get home.

I'm delighted I've moved to within walking distance of a Lidl. The prices in Co-Op were getting crazy. You could even see it on their Member offers, 18 months or so ago they'd give you £2 off a £20 shop. £3.50 off a £35 shop now.

I know that the age demographic on here is quite high but we haven't all got our bus passes yet!
