Madeleine McCann

The whole Madeleine McCann case is very strange indeed. So many things that do not add up, yet despite whoever was to blame, the very sad fact is that a little girl seemingly just vanished while on holiday.Whether she is alive or not, I have no idea, but I have always feared that the poor girl met her fate on the evening she was abducted.

Is this the man who took Madeleine?
E-fits have been released as part of a BBC Crimewatch appeal

'Suspect' was spotted by witnesses

Or is it just a responsible parent having his child with him whilst on holiday?

After several years, it could prove to be very difficult to find out what happened to Madeleine.

I've never quite understood why this story gets so much coverage compared to other missing children cases. Do the police put as much effort into all missing children cases as they have done, and continue to do, with the McCann case?

This one gets special attention because David Cameron made it so. No idea why he decided it was worthy to put a load of resources into it.

They've had the press coverage since pretty much day one though haven't they? Some six years ago.

Maybe he knows something we don't? Or the cynic in me thinks that maybe he thinks it will make him look like one of the good guys?

I would have thought that the reason that this case gets as much publicity and resources as it does is because it is a matter of keeping psychological pressure on the person or persons responsible for the little girls disappearance and/or death. The perpetrator(s) are already possibly known as Deutsch Wolf has already previously stated.

Isn't a lot of it funded? And do you know they're professional people too......

I am slightly shocked that 600 people came forward last night. Have they been sleeping for the last 7 years?

But what is so special about this case compared to other kids going missing is the question I think?

Also, we've still never had an answer to the question as to why the McCann's were never investigated for neglect. There have been reports of other parents leaving children unattended in relation to holidays, & on their return being investigated by social services. Why didn't that happen in this case? The parents deemed it acceptable to leave their very young children unattended in holiday accommodation where there was at the time a trend of break ins, so as they could go eating/drinking with friends. They saw that as more important than their parental responsibilities. Had they been on benefits, the daily mail et al would've had a field day.

The person in the efits looks a lot like Gerry McCann.

The account of Mr Smith, who provided details for one of the e-fits, has been called into question because he initially told investigators the suspect walked and looked like Madeleine’s father Gerry McCann

And yet the new investigation refused to investigate the parents as possible suspects. I don't know what kind of investigation does that without formally investigating and ruling them out as possible perpetrators.

Exactly. If they hadn't have decided that going to the pub down the road with their mates was more important than their parental responsibilities for small children then (assuming they weren't involved, of course) all this would never have happened.

If the wife and I disappeared off down the Moreton Arms and left our six-year-old at home with no supervision, then I'd expect the constabulary to knock on my door and charge me with something, and I'd expect to get put away and my child put into care for his own safety.

It emerged from last nights appeal that on the night before the abduction Madeleine and her brother had both awoken and were crying due to the parents not being there. She told her mum how upsetting this had been.

The call of Tapas restaurant was more important though.

Didn't watch the programme - frankly, I find the whole thing very upsetting, and I feel a mixture of anger, revulsion yet sympathy with the parents. I just can't imagine what it must be like to live every second of every day knowing your child has been taken, and that it wouldn't have happened if they had been there with them.

It sends shivers down my spine.

Still there are many people who think the McCann's were involved in this sad case. One can only hope that is not correct.

Yet they still seem determined not to take any of the responsibility.
