The bike racing thread

Your right about the thumb operated brake, I'd forgotten about that. I used to read Schwantz's atricle in Superbike magazine, I think it was called racing lines where he would talk about technique that I would then go out and try and scare myself shitless in the process!

I've been lucky enough to ride on track with a couple of BSB level racers and the spend they carry is awesome to see. We did Oulton Park and Steve Plater was out in the fast group on his supersport bike and he passed me flat out on the entrance to Lodge while i'd got the back wheel skipping off the floor on the brakes! I couldn't imagine how quick the likes of GP racers are, supreme talents...

Stoner for me to win MotoGP this year, I can see Rossi winning a couple but I think he'll be hindered by how quickly Ducati can get new parts for him to have a decent shot at the title.

Interesting first weekend in BSB!

Hopkins not quite the force people believed he would be, although Brands is hardly a challenging circuit (right, right, left, right, lap 2). It does look like a better fight will be had for the championship this year though with Kiyo, Bryne, Hill, Hopkins, Easton and hopefully Rutter in contention. The french kid, Baz, looks interesting as well.

So anybody else going to Oulton on Monday?

I'll be watching a lot of WSB this season, looks like it should be a close an exciting season.

It's a four horse race for me, but from first showing I think the Yamaha's are going to win it with a canter.

Looks like Checa to me, but the WSBK is a lot better now there are so many Brits in it.

Really?? I think it'll be close between the Honda's and Hill, but if anything I reckon the Honda's will edge it. The others I mentioned aren't realistically in contention, but Hopkins might snap at the heels in some races, although I don't think the Suzuki is fast enough to mount a title challenge.

I may be a little biased, but Laverty was a clear leader until he came off and I think Hill would have overtaken Byrne if he hadn't been pushed back to 11th. The second race Hill looked comfortable.

The yahama's look mightily quick this weekend. I'm just about to leave manchester for today's race. Hopefully Rutter can get himself a podium on his 350th BSB race start, but 10th on the grid will make it hard.

Nice day for it mate. Rumours doing the rounds that Tommy Hill is out today after an off in warm up this morning, shoulder injury...

0.7 second ahead of the rest of the field too. More bad luck for Swan.

Yes tommy was out as predicted, massive shame. Decent and close racing today from my view. I must be the only person that can get sunburned in that weather though!!

Oh and I watched the 2nd race with Tony Rutter who happened to sit behind me in the late afternoon. Great to have a small chat with him given that my dad used to work for him.

Awful week for motorsport.

RIP Marco Simoncelli

I'm not watching the crash.

Another terrible tragedy. Those involved in motor sport do literally take their life in their hands each time they mount their machine.

R.I.P

Got up to watch the rugby but as the news came through i've not even bothered to find out what happened, although I can see NZ won. I did watch the race back on iPlayer and the crash was awful. Very confused though, because Marco came back to consciousness for a while it seems as it was reported after the accident. Motorsport is dangerous - no safety changes could've changed this outcome though, unlike last weekend.

I have no idea what must be going through Colin and Vale's head right.now.

Apparently he went into cardiac arrest when the medics arrived.

Jesus, big crash at the first corner at Valencia taking Vale, Hayden, Bautista and De Puniet out. Luckily everybody is ok it seems.
