    Whether it could be called 'corruption' would be up to others to decide but it's fair to say mis-spend during the covid period was off the scale in some notable cases linked to the government in power at the time.

    you can do a lot with statistics. downsizing your economy, through self inflicted means or other, is probably not the smartest thing to do even if it can bring about higher growth figures thereafter.

    iirc Osborne's guestimate was a c. £4k hit to households, which was prob the estimate of loss divided by no. of UK households. so not doomsday except to the extent that any loss was never likely to be evenly distributed in that way.
