Hi

I'm a Sunderland season ticket holder and Ive been keeping an eye on the potential expansion of Molineux to 50,000

I'm interested in people's opinion if you think this is the right number or slightly too high?

When we were flying finishing 7th back in 2000, the Stadium of Light was increased from 42,000 to 48,000 but a few years we were relegated and we're left with a stadium slightly too big. Extending after only three years of the new stadium was a mistake. In our last 10 years in the premiership, we averaged around 41,000 so the initial capacity was right rather than 7,000 empty seats. We could only fill that regularly if we were a top 8 team.

Obviously not at the moment but on the whole, I think we are clubs of a similar size with big fanbases so Id be interested in what you think. Personally I believe its best to have a capacity that is right for when the club is flying and also during mediocre times because lots of empty sets is never a good look. Getting the balance right of long term supply and demand is the key.

Good luck for the season and I hope we meet again in the top flight soon

50000 is too high. Probably need to be around the 40000 mark for us. We may have the potential to push 50k+ but that is a long time away. I think Fosun (our owners) have also realised that and taken a step or 2 back from their initial plans.

We have one stand that desperately needs doing, capacity or not. It's older than me and I'm knocking on a bit now. It's genuinely dangerous now to access (when we can actually go to games), someone will end up getting hurt climbing over walls and the like to get round the queues.

So while you're at it, you may as well make it bigger.

All some time off now as who knows what's happening. Much like up your way, it's tribal round here. You aren't that likely to get kids from Solihull supporting Wolves regardless of how well we're doing, much as Sunderland could be winning the league and you're not going to get pockets of fanatics in Byker. To a point, we're always going to be finite in what we can attract although there is bugger all of importance to the west of us (population is sparse, though).

Good luck for the season, a proper club with proper fans.

I agree with Deutsch the Steve Bull stand is getting a little worse for wear and in an ideal world to boost the capacity would be get it gone and connect a new stand to our unfinished corner on the Stan cullis stand.

42,000 maximum as we are now

The SB isn't 'worse for wear' it's fucking dangerous.

Outside before a game it is. Not so much with crushing but the turnstiles and concourses are decades outdated, so you end up with crazy queues. If you're approaching the North Bank from the subway end any time from 2.30 (if we have a 3pm KO, remember those) then it's a minefield. The uni pointlessly bought the Feathers so that is still there, the only way to sort it out is it to start hurdling low walls. Now I'm fine with that, but there are plenty of people that won't be, especially if it's seriously wet or icy.

The exit points in case of fire or any other emergency would be diabolical too. It belongs to another age.

In terms of comfort and amenities, well again they're shite but they're not a priority. Safety is.

Never seen that but we are always there earlier than that cos I fucking hate massive queues

Aye, for numerous reasons we started getting to the ground for 2ish and having our last drink there post-Christmas. It genuinely is unsafe, actually surprised we haven't been pulled up on it by WMP.

One other thing that pisses me off about getting out of the SB is the idiots who'll push past anyone to get out quicker. It's like sardines yet you still get plankton pushing kids out of the way just to get to the pub 20 seconds earlier. One took a few kicks off me and Johnny when he barged Cass so hard she nearly went flying, and no I don't feel bad about it, barge one of my kids and I've got no qualms about fucking kicking you.

People really are pricks, we usually hang back till the stand is nearly empty, then amble out.... probably takes us 5 minutes longer than if we barged past everyone. Tbf I despise most of the general public, football fans included

Barged past on his phone the total arsehole. No need for it, it's not as if we're all going slowly just for the sake of it.

We always leave straight after the final whistle and to be fair the majority just shuffle along with the crowd talking about the game but you always get a few who push you, barge you or trip you up (maybe accidentally) as they're desperate to get that extra foot or so further forward. Doesn't bother me them doing it to me as I'm not that easy to push out of the way being a fat bastard but they have absolutely no consideration for kids. Cunts. Then there are the bellends who stream out of J4 - J8 who just pile straight through the crowd to the bogs on the opposite side, again absolutely no consideration for anyone they cut up.

And I agree with you, I hate the general public for the most part.

Boiled my piss that did mate I tell ya.

The SB is the worst of the options at Molineux now & needs to be renewed, if that gives us a bit of an increase in numbers then that is no bad thing - not been in there often lately as have a S/T in the Billy Wright which is still acceptable as long as you leave it 5 mins at the end of the game to get out.

Not sure that we need much more in the short term though redoing that stand at least joins up the NB properly down that side.

Another downside to the SB is that once you're a few rows forward in the upper (and all of the lower) you can't see a fucking thing when that winter sun is right in your eyes. That's one stand that really would benefit from a sloping roof.

Would you prefer a new stadium or happy to redevelop Molineux? The Stadium of light may not have the character of old Roker Park but there is no such problems with queueing, turnstiles and the view is clear from all stands at the Stadium of light

Steve Bull was fine when I was in there for a couple of seasons...….mind you we were shit then me and my mate near enough had our own bar!
