Hi
I'm a Sunderland season ticket holder and Ive been keeping an eye on the potential expansion of Molineux to 50,000
I'm interested in people's opinion if you think this is the right number or slightly too high?
When we were flying finishing 7th back in 2000, the Stadium of Light was increased from 42,000 to 48,000 but a few years we were relegated and we're left with a stadium slightly too big. Extending after only three years of the new stadium was a mistake. In our last 10 years in the premiership, we averaged around 41,000 so the initial capacity was right rather than 7,000 empty seats. We could only fill that regularly if we were a top 8 team.
Obviously not at the moment but on the whole, I think we are clubs of a similar size with big fanbases so Id be interested in what you think. Personally I believe its best to have a capacity that is right for when the club is flying and also during mediocre times because lots of empty sets is never a good look. Getting the balance right of long term supply and demand is the key.
Good luck for the season and I hope we meet again in the top flight soon
