UEFA Nations League & Euro 2020 Qualification

Not surprisingly Sancho, Abraham and Chilwell won't be joining up with the England squad after the party they attended on Saturday night.

Just in case 3 right backs isn't enough Reece James has been promoted from the U21's.

Oops I should read the full article - They haven't been dropped yet but have been asked not to turn up at St Georges Park, subject to an investigation.

I get being young and dumb, but Jesus. Just hold your liquor.

Southgate press conference. Player sat next to him representing the squad is one Mr Coady. I think he is getting bedded in with the England squad.

Neves & Moutinho in the middle for Portugal (Patricio in goal)

Traore on the bench for Spain.

Papers seem to think Southgate will go 3 at the back against Belgium, but it'll be Gomez, Maguire and Dier

After playing a full 90 minutes on Thursday I’m not surprised really. He’s gone from not being in the squad to performing admirably in his 2 appearances but I’m not keen on how England play the back 3 out of possession. He seems to have more of a hands on defending remit rather than sweeping and allowing the other two to attack the ball. Don’t get me wrong he’s coped well but the idea of Lukaku sitting on him worries me.
Is it wrong of me to think that the back 3 is still a work in progress and if Southgate gets them playing it like we do then he will be in the first XI?

If he plays a back 3 without Coady and 2 holding midfielders in Henderson and Rice, all it really tells you is he thinks his centre halves are crap and we'll go back to struggling to create chances, which is why he binned that formation off in the first place. Coady and one holder gives the potential for it to be creative rather than defensive. Henderson and Rice can both do more of a box to box role, but I bet he has them sitting

Article in the Torygrqph saying he has settled on 3 at the back. He has to play Coady else it won’t work.

Looking after 3 kids when it’s raining outside will do that to anyone.

If southgate wants to focus on playing with 3 at the back, then it makes sense for him to try variations of it.

It would be interesting to see Coads tested as part of a back 3 against the top ranked international team, but equally it could benefit him if the others get shown up ion shortcomings they may have in those positions.

Do him good to rest this one, play a squad role, and return to us fresher.

Southgate sees his job as negating our weaknesses. It's definitely CB and CM. Even our full backs are average defensively. 3412 would deal with all that but we'd then only be able to choose one forward to play with Kane.

All of Ireland's starting XI today were born in Ireland, first time that's happened in 45 years.

Didn't last though as Kevin Long got injured and they brought on Cyrus Christie. Doc is playing centre half now!

It's a terrible game.

Dier at sweeper ahead of Coads. Southgate really is not a good manager.

Edit - just seen DW’s post, still makes more sense than Doc at CB.

Scandalous really, Walker in despite not being a CH and being shit and sent off last time he got picked.
