Has anybody had any experience ( good or bad) of seeing a chiropractor for neck and shoulder pain?

Yeah I’ve been a fair amount recently as got roped into a package and was desperate and willing to try anything. Felt it made no difference, but kept going but now I’ve just given up on it. Still got some “free sessions” left, but a sunk cost now and taking an hour out my day for a 5 min appt was worth more than the sunk cost.

I had been years ago for what feels like the same issue and it did help or I perceived it to.

But I guess it depends what your symptoms are. I’ve heard people swear by them. Maybe more for lower back than neck, and I’d say my issue is certainly more muscular related than spine but I’d already been having regular deep tissue massage and wasn’t get joy from that either. The chiro claimed it wouldn’t help because it’s my ribs and spine “pulling on the muscles”, but he would wouldn’t he.

I know my underlying issue is posture so I making efforts to change that rather than manage the consequences.

I did my knee just before Christmas in 2022 whilst in Oz. I struggled along with it (as you do), but it wasn't getting any better. Last year I went to a chiro to see if he could help. His assessment was that I had torn my meniscus. Several sessions including manipulation, acupuncture and low level laser treatments and the knee is as good as before. An initial 40 minute consultation and treatment session followed by periodic 20 minute sessions.

My wife uses the same chiro for her hip and back, with positive results also.

I’ve torn my menisci 3 times. Two were repaired with the concurrent ACL tears but the third is left untreated and the surgeon advised not to have a third surgery on this knee as it’s already arthritic. I can manage it day to day but I can’t bend my knee towards 90 as that pinches the torn bit and I definitely can’t twist or run. So I’m intrigued as to how your chiropractor fixed you, as I’ve never come across one who had any tools beyond their hands and the activator gun?

I did originally post 'manipulation, acupuncture and low lever laser treatment'?

Mrs Basher went to a chiropractor in 2012... they brought on acute sciatica... she ended up having a discectomy... she was in the most horrendous pain as a result of what the chiropractor did to her... when she went to an osteopath they refused to touch her as her back was at its worse hence requiring the surgery.

So her experience was very much at the worse end of the scale.

Well yes. But where was this, did they charge extra for laser and acupuncture, how long did it take, how many sessions, how often, follow up, maintenance?

You didn't ask that?

It was at the chiro's. It was at the chiro's consulting rooms in Morley. No extra charge for laser/acupuncture. I started going to the chiro last April/May. Initially every 2 weeks, had laser and acupuncture treatment from June then 3 or 4 weeks. I stopped going in December.

Yeah I’ve seen an osteopath a few times for neck pain that causes headaches. Found it quite useful, and got a lot of advice about posture and stretches and how to try and prevent it coming back. It’s mainly about loosening the muscles up and trying to even out the muscles that are doing the most work (or something like that, I think!).

Another fan of osteopaths here. More than happy to recommend the one I used but I'm in Sutton Coldfield so they might be far away from you

I went to one with ongoing lower back issues. I used to feel a little better after the sessions but no real long term improvements. I went for physio for a second time, having tried and failed the first and that cleared it up eventually. I’m sure it must be horses for courses with this type of thing.

I guesse most of us have desk jobs, which is a big issue for hamstrings if not stretched regularly, once they tighten up everything else gets pulled all over the place.

Again, osteopath rather than chiropractor, but I can recommend Daniel from City Osteopaths on the Tettenhall Road.

I have a slipped disc in my neck, and whilst he's never going to be able to fix it (and an op is last resort according to my specialist), having an appointment with him every three months keeps it so that I can deal with it. And he's also always been completely honest about what he can achieve too.

It was my starter for 10

Thanks, 40 points to Leeds.

These guys had me going 2x a week in the initial phase then once 1 week in the next. Can’t remember what the third stage was as I’ve stopped going despite paying for 17 sessions. Had my pants down
