Crystal Palace 4-2 Wolves: Verdict Thread

I hope there are a few lessons learned for these last few weeks re what certain players are capable of.

Vítor mentioned early on that Bellegarde wasn't suitable to play in a 2 but was forced into playing him there through injuries/suspension. He surprised everyone with a few good games there but I think Vítor needs to trust his gut with that one and insist that he isn't counted amongst our central midfield group when we look to recruit in the summer.

If Djiga is at the stage where he's being taken out after 45 minutes (I assume it wasn't injury) then the plan for him has to be to go on loan next season. We know Bueno isn't good enough either so that leaves us short at CB even with Mosquera coming back.

Johnstone will be going and if Sá stays, he always misses random games. We can't be going into a PL season with Dan Bentley as back up, it's a recipe for disaster. He's a much worse keeper than that Ward idiot and he basically relegated Leicester.

All that before you even start to worry about building a new forward line from scratch and losing your 2 starting wing backs.

It just takes 1 promoted side to get things right in the summer for us to be in big trouble.

Big window ahead. I'm glad we haven't finished the season on six wins because it papers over some fairly sizable cracks.

We never managed to win six on the bounce under Nuno, so I don't want to diminish that achievement but it's equally telling as soon as we've come up against teams with a bit more about them we've come unstuck.

That being said, there's a reasonable chance we lose our captain, one of our centre mid pairing and top scorer this summer and the remainder of the group aren't upto it or will be severely compromised without a window as successful as our first after promotion to complement the spine of Agba, Andre and JSL.

Bit like your view that Covid was just a heavy cold I suppose.....mr always right about shit.
Just making stuff up now, but crack on, I'm sure you can link the post, any post that says that?

Baffling why he picked Guedes and Sarabia, absolutely baffling. He can`t surely be considering keeping these two? An off day for Agbadoo, played some awful passes. Cannot see the sense in not playing your best player, regardless of him not being here next season. As I said previously, we would have beaten these with our first team. I don`t believe, as someone said, we were on the beach, there was plenty of effort but it was backed up with little quality.

It would appear not, thread no longer accessible for some reason. Was on the first page if I recall.

Thing is, none of us knew what we were dealing with, but not everyone chooses, or possibly possesses the shear arrogance, to describe other peoples view on what is often an emotive sport as bobbins either, twenty minutes after a game. Sooo here we are.

Here you go. I said worse case the games would be behind closed doors, although I didn't think that was likely. We hit worse case. No mention of a heavy cold. I gave an opinion, you just lied

Nah I was mistaken. The news paper sensationalism bit obviously stuck in my head somewhere but even reading that bit back now I can see you meant in the context of the season ending rather than covid itself. Look it was a cheap shot for me to make so you have my apologies.

That's very good of you, thank you 👍

So we handed Everton 13th spot. That pisses me off. Our half hearted performance also pisses me off. The team selection was a joke. Make that many changes and you are asking for trouble. OK, Palace did the same and given we had so much possession, we hardly created a thing other than from two corners. So many players thinking the job is done and frankly, I think the attitude of some was way off where it should have been. Professional pride alone should make a player want to perform but too many were going through the motions. Hopefully Vitor has learned he can't rely on several of them. Absolutely nowhere near the standard required at this level. Atrocious and clueless.

I just want to say that being an STH doesn't make your opinion more valid than someone who doesn't have one and it's a shame that it was tossed around as such.

It makes you more invested financially - something I think you can dismiss quite glibly as you did today to Mel, I do think that gives him more right to an opinion than you or I, he's paying for that right. It doesn't make the STH opinion more accurate though. Being in the ground also gives you a better perspective of the overall game if not individual incidents. I always say you needed to be in the ground to watch Adama to truly appreciate his lack of awareness

The sass on that wasn’t directed at the money, it was directed at the idea of Guedes being a core piece next season.

I didn’t want to engage the money at all, because of fucking course that’s a lot to spend on anything. There’s no discussion there, it’s unequivocal.

Still, I apologize for my insensitivity.

Mostly been said on the game, but I was disappointed not to see Traore. He’s a good player who’s had terrible luck with injury, and would fit better in CM than JRB

We seem to be reverting to the mean now the pressure is off. Letting that Palace starting XI put four past us is not an encouraging sign.
We’re definitely regressing to the mean after six wins against poor teams. The worry is that the mean could be rather lower than we hoped, especially if we lose Cunha, Semedo and RAN. We’re back to the normal position whereby get summer recruitment right and we could be part of the midtable group of clubs who never flirt with relegation and at some point in the season think scraping a European place is possible. Get it wrong, which we generally have done of late, and we’re back to hoping the promoted teams are out of their depth.

I wouldn’t worry. I know that in general my take isn’t as insightful as a few on here who certainly aren’t STH. At the same time the pervasive view (not on here) is way too easy on the club and prone to optimism that usually doesn't match the eye test. Equally I don’t want to sound blasé about the cash, I’m not, but the bigger investment for me is in family time together (long distances involved) and how being persistently shit due to our own poor decisions as we were until Dec played out on that. That’s a new experience for me, and one that will keep changing, as evidently my individual connection is that of blind loyalty come what may, but there’s a different dynamic when you’re trying to persuade others that all day out to watch us be outclassed by Crystal Palace is a good idea, when I guess they have other priorities in life. I don’t basically, cos I’m old and boring. So, in short, Wolves making stupid decisions annoys me and I imagine it would be easier if I could just close the lid on it and do something else.

I think it's fair to draw a lot of conclusions and negativity from last night.

However, it's entirely different game with Semedo, Sa, Doc, Munetsi and Gomes starting. (And obviously Cunha, but he is definitely leaving, so understand him not starting.)

I'm not sure why he changed it so much, it was like a League cup team.
