Newcastle (A) 13/9 Build up & Match day thread.

Quite excited to see what Krejci and Tolu bring to the team. I think a big front 2 of JSL and Tolu with Arias in the 10 behind is definitely the way to go (until it isn't)

Isnt JSL injured? I don't know if Tolu will start, thought he wasn't match fit yet. It'll be Hwang up front on his own.

I think we need Fer in the team, not sure where though.

Just imagine how good that side would have been if we'd added Munetsi to it
Unlike Dave Edwards and the other official podcast guy, I’m just too stupid to understand how amazing that would have been. I only watch him with my own eyes every week, including off the ball, so am only operating at the layman’s level of him seemingly being miles off the level of an acceptable professional footballer. Idiot that I am.

I was at that game in 2018, in with the Geordies but right next to our bench. Amazing Was the first time I’d been to St James and sat with the home fans since Jan 1st 1990. Maybe I should start driving up there for the match tomorrow now?!

Vítor say JSL’s injury is “more serious” than they first thought.

Tolu isn’t match fit to start, so it’s going to be Hwang up top again.

It’s got to be said, Vítor looked a completely different man to the one that joined us 6 months ago. Looked like he had the weight of the world on his shoulders during the presser!

No Strand-Larsen. So, Hwang up top with Munetsi and Arias (probable starters) and a transfer window that didn't bring in the "kind" of player that Vitor wanted. No wonder he looked defeated during his press conference.
The needing more time to get players acclimated is getting VERY old. Reminder, he was signed as head coach on Dec. 19th. On the 22nd they beat Leicester, 26th they beat United (both clean sheets) and on the 29th tied Spurs late. That's 7 points in 10 days on the job.
Granted the team last year was more talented, could score goals, but was awful defending. This year can't score and awful defending.

On a side note, does Strand-Larsen get dramatically healed after the Newcastle game?

If JSL's injury is worse than first feared - then we could be in real bother for a while .

First things first though - let's get the defensive set up sorted and stop leaking easy goals .

The defence is an issue but Hwang and Munetsi in the front three means we will not sustain any attacks tomorrow.

Hwang is unable to do anything you would want from a number nine and we won't build the play properly with Munetsi in the team.

So it will just become one-way traffic. A routine win for Newcastle who take their foot off the gas with Barcelona in mind is my prediction, unfortunately.
