O'Neil aka GONe

Also he's wrong about us playing "a back five for a very long time". Lopetegui pretty much exclusively played a back four and did so all the way through pre-season in 2023.

Saying it was 'fixed' in January with signings shows he never got what was wrong.

Exactly right. He's learned nothing from his mistakes. Totally delusional.

It's similar to the bollocks after the Everton game when he was going on about how he was 'man enough to stand up to any criticism' after he'd just shuffled off down the tunnel without looking at us.

Thing is I don't think he's an absolute cunt like Saunders or Lage. He hasn't learned anything though.
He's not that far off. He's a smug twat who cannot take responsibility for the things he blatantly got wrong. We were a defensive shambles in almost every game we played under him. I'll give him credit for getting us to play some decent attacking football at times, but that defence was an absolute disaster that he never really seemed like he knew how to fix. Instead of blaming the players and the recruitment (or lack thereof) do something to mitigate the problems instead of compounding them you white toothed gimp.

Oh I don't particularly like him.

But Saunders is one of the worst people in Britain and Lage managed to alienate multiple top pros and is a fucking weirdo. Saunders relegated us to League One and Lage played pound-for-pound, some of the worst football I've ever seen in my life.

All about levels.

There are still Lage truthers out there, they exist.

I hated him with the passion of a thousand burning suns, such a wanker.

There are, a lot of them also thought GON could do no wrong though!

Worse than Lage IMO and no this isn't a wind up. Lage has at least achieved something in the game.

No chance.

Lage had all of these which O'Neil didn't have:

Saiss
Coady
Boly
Neves
Moutinho
Adama
Raul

And his football was absolutely shocking. We had a run where we scored 2 goals in 8 games and that isn't even his worst run in terms of results.

And he's a complete fucking cunt. A horrible man.

LOL...when you have a downer on someone, you really have a downer.

I was looking past what he did at Wolves. His first stint at Benfica was where he made his name and he is credited with bringing through Joao Felix there when they walked the title. I guess Fosun saw this and his ability to coach younger players and thought that would fit their model.

Lage had us playing some good football for those 1-0 losses and had us in or around 8th position before the wheels came off. Yes, totally agree with how he treated some of the players but, from his point of view, he wasn't attached to them like we were. He wanted to change the playing style to a more attacking mode after Nuno. I also think that is what Fosun were thinking.

The rest is history but I don't have him down as quite the cunt you do. I just think he was out of his depth coaching a Prem team with aspirations of being in the top 10. You can get away with it in Portugal where the competition isn't as fierce. And, as an aside, he's doing OK again with Benfica although it is clear some of their players and fans aren't that happy with him.

Those "1-0 losses" were three fucking games and we weren't even that good. Leicester should have been 3-0 up at half time and we barely had a shot in the second half against Spurs. It's such a ridiculous fig leaf. I did not enjoy those games at all.

And we lost so nothing else matters.

How does this "more attacking style" translate to 2 goals in 8 games out of interest? Or going 1-0 down and the game is basically over because we won't score.

Or having three attacking players spread across the entire width of the pitch.

An appalling manager.

We played some nice stuff in a half of each of those games, particularly with Adama off the left running in behind. As Dan says, the other halves not so good. Fourth game v Watford a good comfortable win, and then normal service resumed against Brentford.

That Brentford game definitely shook him up. So incredibly weak if he really that quickly changed his idea of how the team should play. Loads of players perfectly capable of playing in a more possession dominant team.

much like with GON, so obvious where it was going by the end of the season too. Management too weak to do anything about it.
