O'Neil aka GONe

Ignore the naysayers, the guy is a genius in the making, easily the most exciting and forward thinking English manager in a generation. If there is any chance of him going to the Blades you should be organising fans to be camping outside the stadium until he has put pen to paper on a contract...and then it is street party time.

If he becomes your manager you should definitely have Doyle too, he would be a devastating loss to us but Gazza got him running our midfield and I have no doubt if we hadn’t panicked and got rid of Gazza he would have guided Doyle into the England team, of that I have no doubt.

All you need to know is this thread, calling for him to be sacked for being out of his depth, was created less than two months after he took charge.

Fraud, con artist, deluded genius, genius bit in his own mind, just managed to garner a bit of luck with us.

Lots of negativity on here so a bit of balance: you can probably eat a sandwich near him without losing his sht, as he’s not a complete psycho.

He was horribly found out/exposed in the PL and pissed a lot of us off while doing so, but if he's reflective and wants to learn and develop, he might have a managerial career further down the pyramid.

Maybe has too many issues (tactical, player relations) to do much above the bottom couple of tiers though

He’s going to have to accept at some point that defending (and particularly, defending counter attacks and set pieces) is quite important to consistently win games.

He seems to think he’s above that however. This will surprise people but I couldn’t stand him…

I'm happy to stick the boot in and I'd pity Sheffield United if they got him.

Complete chancer, his tactics are rubbish. He wants to play attacking football but doesn't coach any defending, most games are incredibly open and you will lose the ball and concede very quickly, often. Set pieces are a real weak point. Don't expect many clean sheets.

Arrogant, has mates in the media who will defend him to the hilt. You might have a good spell at some point and he will milk all the credit, but when that ends he will deflect and blame everyone but never learn from his mistakes.

His level is probably low Championship or League One.

He will tell Brazilian internationals that they don’t know how to play football…..

The longer GON had with the squad the less cohesive we looked.

As soon as he'd eradicated all of the work Lopetegui had put in we were left with chaos.

One, slight, chance of positivity is he's quite reflective so may realise that he over coached players at Wolves and ignored basics like marking the back post at corners.

That's unlikely though and a shame as I quite like Sheffield United.

He’s an absolute coward of a man. Threw his players under the bus, blamed everyone but himself, ignored/disrespected the fans - and was more concerned with looking at his iPad and over-analysing every movement of a game than actually coming up with some sort of structured formation/plan that the players understood.

The difference under him compared to Vitor within literally DAYS was stark.

It’s a shame. When he first joined, like others, I thought he seemed like a reasonable enough bloke. Can’t stand him now.

You have my condolences if he ends up with you. And it will only go one way unless he’s done a lot of soul searching and learning over the last few months.

Wilder to be sacked by Sheff Utd, O'Neil not in frame

Latest by Sky Sports News' Tim Thornton and Rob Dorsett:

Chris Wilder will be sacked by Sheffield United in the next few days following a review of last season when the team missed out on promotion to the Premier League in the play-off final.

Contrary to reports elsewhere, Sky Sports News understands the former Wolves boss Gary O'Neil will not be the man to replace Wilder.

Flipping to Ruben Selles now.

Reading on how Utd are doing their scouting it sounds like a club to avoid tbh

I'm not sure at any level you can defend like we did so unless he changes and probably brings in someone to work alongside who knows their arse from their elbow when it comes to defending he'll struggle at even those levels.

I'll confess, after the initial WTF reaction I was one of the ones defending him in his early days at Wolves. Probably because the level of animosity towards his appointment seemed over the top, and at first he seemed like a decent bloke. He managed to change my opinion pretty quickly, by being both shit and a wanker. I would have happily beaten him repeatedly over the head with his fucking iPad.

Tbf after the initial 6 weeks, once we beat City, when we played really well, he had us playing entertaining football and we were winning games. Defensively we were still chaotic and eventually after a couple of months reverted to type and it was horrendous.
