R.I.P Johan Cruyff

The Dutch side of the mid seventies was one of the Worlds greatest ever and Cruyff was the superstar in the team. A true footballing great and one with an interesting life story. RIP

Sad sad news

There was a long piece on Irish radio about him last night and how nowadays the magnitude of what he and Rinus Michels did for Dutch Football has been lost, before the two of them came along Holland were considered a poor country for football, they hadn't reached the World Cup Finals since 1938 and the domestic league was on a par with something the League of Ireland, in 1965 Ajax apart from Cryuff only had 1 other fulltime professional player on their books.

10 years later 3 European Cups, a World Cup Final and a foundation for their country's football to prosper

Such a sad loss, he showed us all that intelligence is far more important than athletic ability. RIP.

Don't forget Feyenoord as well. Ajax needed competition.

Michels was an absolute football genius though. I wish Wolves played 1974 Dutch total football.

Probably the greatest footballer to ever live, a sad loss to the footballing world.
