The Cricket Thread

Sounds like text book preparation for a test summer for Crawley. I’ve given up looking at his early summer scores as they tend to count for nothing in the eyes of the selectors or in his ability to go on to score runs when he’s got his England shirt on.
Which is all true enough, but he couldn't buy a run in NZ...

Since a score of 76 at Lord's, he's on a run of:

0
3
18
78
27
3
29
2
0
1
17
8
21
5

In Tests, and his franchise form in the winter was so bad that he got dropped despite his price tag being quite high (I forget which crappy league it was, they all blur into one).

Some effort from Ethan Brookes in a defeat for Worcestershire. From being 7 down requiring 108, the rest of the batting managed just one run whilst Brookes got them within 28 runs of victory.

Another 5 wicket haul for Josh Tongue today. He’s had a good start to the summer and should be in contention for a test spot.

I heard earlier his dad built a net for him and paid local kids to give him something like 500 throw downs a day. This was after his talent was spotted and they got him into an academy. His talent was obviously there but the dedication to learn his craft had been put in too. Having the resources to fund it all helped also.
They say that his next ipl contract will be £1m and he will easily triple that in sponsorship deals.

Hopefully he’ll have sound advice around him also, does worry me young people come into money you often get some bad influences near by trying to earn a quick bit of dosh for themselves.

Hope the kids included the equivalent of a sell on clause per throw down.

I imagine there's a touch of client journalism about it, but I wonder if there's something in the whispers of Crawley and Bashir not being in vs Zim. McKinney seems to be pole position for the former and either Farhan Ahmed or Liam "Dawson" Dawson for the latter.

I think they might get a bit ruthless, you can't really mess about vs India and Aus if there are players you're not sure on.

I read a piece the other day questioning whether Bashir will make it as a County player let alone International

13 man squad vs Zim, I assume Cox and Potts will be the two to miss out with the XI being:

Crawley
Duckett
Pope
Root
Brook
Stokes
Smith
Atkinson
Tongue
Cook
Bashir

Apparently we've only played one home Test in the last 18 years where none of Anderson, Broad or Woakes have featured

Crawley still in fresh off another failure today. Bashir is never going to be good enough either. Nice to see Cook and Tongue in there.

8 innings for Hamza Shaikh batting in the top 3/4 for Warks this season, still hasn't reached 30 in any innings.

Need 76 to beat Yorkshire, six wickets in hand.
