exactly. if you dont want to lose you might burn the chance to win by batting too long
If you want to win it seems reasonable enough to only need a day and a bit to take ten wickets. Especially with our approach. Leave it impossible to get the runs even at our top pace, and trust in our lack of Athertons. Somehow fall apart and leave us 400 to win with plenty of time and, granted, it’s game on.

It used to be that 400 ahead was absolutely loads. I think Bazball has moved that window to 500 to be safe for four sessions, possibly even a bit more. I think Stokes wants the record test chase in his cv. We shall see I guess, but I can see India batting slightly too long to prevent the Bazball chase being on, and then the draw is most likely.

Straightforward catch dropped by Crawley that, don't care how hard it was hit.
Poor.

Just waiting to see how cautious or brave India are going to be

It's tricky for them, although they should be extremely confident from here. They've surely got to put England in after tea at the latest, they could be getting on for 500 lead if Pant sticks around.

Yep 4 sessions should be ample to bowl England out

Say what you like about England's current ethos but it has really spooked the rest of the world. India have a lead far in excess of anything chased down in history but seem reluctant to declare. Surely their best chance of a win is to dangle a (large) carrot.

Very odd for a team 1-0 down in the series.

It's going to be very interesting when we finally do start batting.

India helping us now though. Every extra over that they bat is potentially one we don’t have to face. The chase at Headingly has scared them more than seemed possible.

England have got to score at 5 an over for 110 overs. No idea what they are waiting for

We’re good chasers but there’s zero chance of us chasing this down, just wasting their own time.

Only possible explanation is don’t want the ball too old at start tomorrow but surely an extra wicket or two this evening is much more important?

I don’t know, seems simple this time. Bat most of the day, get 500 ahead and stick us in with 30 minutes to bat. That said, weather might complicate things.
Don’t know what all the angst is about - unless you’re there in which case it’s annoying. This scenario seemed nailed on yesterday.

Not angst at all I’m enjoying every minute that India waste

Brilliant from Gill but not so great from India to not put England under pressure now. Unfathomable that they don't declare and get at England.
