The Cricket Thread

I hope it rains. It is utterly diabolical captaincy and thinking by the Indian team. Defeatist nonsense. Wholly typical of how the game used to be played ... if I can't win, then I won't lose. India are so shit scarred of losing that they've lost sense of winning.
Guess we’ll see. Personally I think they win comfortably. You speak about Crawleys shot as if it’s an outlier.

Duckett gone now... unlucky with an inside edge...

For a time that have “lost a sense of winning”, they seem to be doing awfully well at winning this game.

Sounds like you just want it set up to be more junk T-20, not the remorseless approach to winning test cricket.

Get miles ahead and take a couple before stumps would have been the plan. They’re executing. They’re likely not too bothered you’re not entertained.

So you think Crawley being dumb and an unlucky inside edge for Duckett and India have won the game this evening?
They may well go on to win the game but their ultra cautious approach could yet back fire.

And you couldn't be more fucking wrong reT20. And it's got nothing to do with entertainment. We'll see. India may well have thought they could grind the game out.

Evidently India haven’t lost the winning mentality. They’re thumping us. Do I think India can price in England going for their shots and getting out to ones that look nuts in the circumstances? Of course they can, because it’s exactly what they do.

The ball that got Duckett was a good one by the way. You should watch more cricket and less baseball and you might understand the game more. Then you’ll know I’m not “fucking wrong”.

Stop being obtuse.

PS. The game isn't fucking over yet.

I’m not being obtuse. I’m being direct.

You’re the one saying there is no winning mentality. You’re the one calling them ‘defeatist’. I understand where you live it’s OK to treble down on something at best contestable in the face of objective events. Over here, for the time being, you’ll have to accept being called out.

Does it look like they are defeatist right now? Not an obtuse question.

What the fuck where I live has to do with anything I don't know. That's typical bollocks I used to endure on the old Mix. You have no clue how much time I spend in the UK every year or what my experience with cricket is. It's the usual claptrap from someone who thinks they know better than someone else and can't actually understand that someone else may have a different opinion. So fuck off with your condescending bullshit.

Now, back to cricket. India are well on top here and yes, they should wrap up victory tomorrow now they have demolished our top order. They took something of a risk continuing to bat on in my opinion. That's all it is.

Now fuck off with your baseball shit and stop acting like a fucking child. You have your opinion, I have mine. And where either of us lives doesn't fucking matter one jot.

Well I’m genuinely sorry if I’ve upset you, which seem to have done. And certainly apologies for debating the poster not the post if I’ve gone there.

I think if you read back I’ve contested something rather more forthright than you’ve suggested. They’re beating us up and their captain seems to be making hard nosed, successful decisions. To some degree though the current optics are just unfortunate for your opinion, because luck plays a part. I’d be delighted if you were able to bat me back accordingly tomorrow after England save the game. Although I don’t think either outcome will change our opinion, and that’s fair enough come what may.

No problem you debating and contesting my posts but when you err into the areas of where I live and telling me about fucking baseball in a condescending tone then I draw the line. I absolutely understand your point about India grinding England into the ground because they are betting they still can get all 10 wickets in the time left over but I just think it is a gamble that was unnecessary. If they honestly think they can get the wickets, then why do they need a 607 lead when history shows they don't need to?

Now that England have lost three wickets, their decision looks to be favourable. For me, when the innings started, England should be capable of batting a day and half a session. India are bowling well though and have done what they need to do today. We'll see what happens tomorrow. I expect an Indian victory but hope for a draw.

Ultimately I always hope for a close test that England win narrowly. If even take the opposition winning for a good game. That my preference in every series. Except Australia when I’d like us to steamroller them in boring but humiliating fashion in every match.

On that we agree. And if some of our batters could understand the game situation a little better then maybe some of the losses we have suffered wouldn't have happened. That said, India have played smarter and better cricket than England so far and unless a miracle happens, deserve to win this Test.

Start will probably be delayed due to rain but won’t be enough to impact to much time taken out the game.
In fact when it does stop it’ll be very good bowling conditions.
England have been chasing this game since ball 1.
Archer and Atkinson will come in for lords test as this bowling attack has been battered.

Genuinely enjoyed listening to the young lad Ravi on the TMS podcast. Asks some cracking questions and catches the players off guard. The best bit was when Jaiswal presents him with his bat and he pretty much says “that’s great, thanks. Anyway, when are you going to declare”? @Squeak would approve 😂

Really bad performance from the toss to day 5.
play to your strengths first, batting is clearly stronger than the bowling.
Pitch and weather was good so help your bowlers with scoreboard pressure.

Crawley and Pope are forever going to have 1-2 good innings in a series and a load of single figure scores to go with them, they are never going to gain that consistency.
