The Summer 2025 Transfer Window Thread

Fabio leaving is great news for us and him, just the wrong signing. Reality is he should probably have stayed in Porto where he was comfortable and developed from there.
We could have bought someone far more suited for us for the price paid.
That decision is probably that start of the managed decline. Especially considering Fabio was thrust into main CF role after Raul injury. Meant us signing Willian Taylor on loan and some very pragmatic football.

I'd rather just have £10m, but I think we'll actually get a decent fee in the region of £17-20m and our sheeple bellend fanbase will start wanking over Jeff Shi causing me months of rage and arguments with internet weirdos

O'Rourke saying that us and Palace are keeping tabs on Holstein Kiel striker Phil Harres

Nothing PSR wise, I don't think. Original 5 year contract 5 years ago.

I think when they sign new contracts whatever was left to 'pay off' gets spread across the length of the new contract.

For example:
- £40M fee 4 year contract
- Year 1 £10M
- Year 2 £10M
- Year 3 £10M
- New 2 year contract
- Year 4 £5M
- Year 5 £5M

I’ll keep boring away by saying his numbers are the same as Mir for a team getting relegated / poor in La Liga and I think we got about £13m for him so should expect about the same - nothing to get too excited about. Of course the ROI on Mir worked out a little better.

Sky Sports News headline this morning is us “leading the race for Jamie Vardy”.

I think if we’re going to do a feel good English signing from Leicester this summer, to get our homegrown quota up - and to buffer our squad up a bit, I’d rather we have Conor Coady. Especially as we currently don’t have anyone to play that middle role should Agbadou get injured/suspended/rested. Think Coads would have a superb impact off the pitch, in the dressing room, comes with that feel good factor - and he’s not a completely spent force on the pitch in a very specific role either.

Ah OK, we gave him an extra year after 2 years so £5.25m then.

Any Coady speculation should also consider whether or not he wants to be a squad player or playing every week. I could be wrong but I’d have thought the latter.

The only reason we need to increase our home grown numbers is because we are towards the top of our foreign allowance, not because we need to tick boxes numbers wise. No point signing anyone who you'd never want to play.

Our 3 at the back is different to the one Nuno played, there's nothing similar to the way Agbadou plays that position to the way Coady did apart from how it looks on a team sheet. Also we seem to have a decent team spirit and leadership, we don't need someone to come in just for that.

Finally, he's 32, not 35 he should be looking to play. It'd be a bad move for him.

Agree with a lot of that, but given a choice of Vardy or Coady, I know who I’d rather sign.

Where do things stand with homegrown etc if/when Johnstone, Dawson & Doyle inevitably move on. Do they not need replacing? I’m not completely clued up on how it works, but they were chatting about this on the latest Wolves Fancast poddy & suggesting we’d have to sign some homegrown players?

Hugo Bueno coming back would take one of those spaces but we definitely need more.

Surely there are a few home grown players around for sale at an affordable cost that don't need to be regular first team starters but also are not complete duffers and will do a job from the bench? Or am I bring too simplistic?(again)

If we haven't got a list of 30 players that are homegrown and improve on people like Doc, Bueno, Hwang and Tommy then every scout we have needs firing into the sun

There's not a home grown rule as such, it's the opposite. You can't have more than 17 overage none qualified players in your squad. So if you look at the 3 players you've named they don't need replacing because they are British to fill numbers as 2 don't play and one isn't even in the squad.

Assuming Mosquera and Sasa are fit for the start of the season we are 3 over our none home grown limit as Rodrigo's exemption ends this season - Sarabia and Cunha leaving takes it down to 1.

The squad could definitely do with rebalancing, but it's not because we need home grown players for the sake of home grown players to fill a quota, if they aren't going to play it's pointless.

Home grown or underage first team squad options after Forbs, Dawson and Fabio leave for next season are currently:
Bentley, Johnstone, King, Doherty, Doyle, H Bueno, Lima, Meupiyou - plus any of the 18s/23s you want to add.

Tbf over the last couple of months Doc has been absolutely fine. Even Bueno has done OK in the last few games I've seen him, obviously he isn't home grown so not relevant.
I realise a lot of their improvement has been down to the influence of Agba but still, it shows players can do a job with good coaching and organisation.
