Welcome to Wolves Jhon Arias

He was reportedly player of the tournament at the Club WC so he's obviously got some ability. I'm not sure whether the main issue is he doesn't fit in with the formation(s) VP has played, whether he needs better players around him to bring out the best in him or whether her is just one of those players that isn't suited to the PL. I could understand why after no proper break for two years he made a slow start playing in a new team in a new country, however it would be a massive understatement to say he's been a huge disappointment in recent games after looking a little better in the Spurs game. It's reached the stage where Fer Lopez deserves a start ahead of him.

I've got a feeling that Arias is one of those players who is good enough to look good with other good players around him..... but not good enough to drag a poor team with him.

As we're exceptionally poor, he's fucked, we're fucked, it's all fucked
Think thats fair. Said to my lad during yesterday's game that up till the start of this season we've had half a team of very good players and the rest of the squad filled in around them. This season majority of those 'fillers' are now first choice.

Spot on. We could carry most of them if they were mixed with three or four who have a bit of stardust. sadly we sold them and replaced them with players barely good enough to be bench warmers.

Ah...shite player looks better when they have players of a much higher quality in and around them... otherwise known as the Darren Ferguson Principle, he won a Premier League Title Winners Medal you know...

That's not a dig BTW, I just don't buy into that... if you're good it'll show... if you're not people will look for any reason to kid themselves otherwise... see Nunes for recent proof.

As did Mark Atkins.

I get the club wc was a small sample size, but he looked his teams best player, he didn't look like someone being carried or propped up.

This to me feels like a squad quality and tactics issue, we could put a player like Mitoma in our current starting 11 and I feel we'd still make him invisible.
Bang on. Still insisting on playing him right wing with his two closest players yesterday being Hoever and Munetsi who we actively try and avoid passing to. Sending him out to fail.

He does, but then that isn't unheard of and therefore shouldn't be something too shocking to our club that an overseas player is struggling to initially adapt (younger but Salah struggled at Chelsea for example)

The issue for me is they have taken a chance on an untested player to our league, at the same time we are weak at goalkeeper, trying to replace both starting FBs, a new CB, lost the main creative outlet and goal scorer, it was a naive amount of business that was done too cheaply and too slowly.

I still think he is one of our better players (low bar) and will make a vital contribution several times this season, but he is 28. Most South Americans come to Europe at a much younger age, and there is a reason no one else signed him before us.
