Welcome to Wolves Jhon Arias

If we’d signed him as a squad player to be back up to players like Neto, Cunha etc we’d be quite happy with him.

But he’s miles off being a key player at this point.

He looks fucking shit to me.

Weak, no real pace - don’t think I’ve seen him have a decent shot yet…….

I think we’ve been sold a pup.

To go with the others.

Feels like a reactionary purchase rather than one that was properly scouted (don't most seem like that now?).

"Oh, he's looked ok in a couple of games in the summer. Let's ask if he'd come to Wolves."

No refunds though, unless we're paying in installments and can just send him back on the cheap, Neil 'utility man' Emblen style. Feels like one of those who a new manager would instantly drop, only to be seen in cup games and emergencies.

Man, despite his flaws, Cav could finish. In the freezing gale against Bournemouth you knew 100% that ball was in the net, almost from when he played the first part of the one-two never mind when he got it back. Nailed on. Oh to have that skill set in the squad. And, you know, all the other skills we miss.

Very disappointed in him, didnt expect miracles but would have hoped he'd have started having at least some influence on games. Thought he might be getting it together after his performances over the last few weeks but it seems that was his level
I think most of us thought we needed him to hit the ground running (given his reputation) for us to have any chance this season.

He’s being chronically misused and our fans who had never seen him play thought we were getting a ball carrying Cunha replacement. Just leading to unrealistic expectations for him.

He’s not a winger, he’s not a wide midfielder in this league. He has to play inside in a 3 or slightly more advanced as he did second half against Spurs. Their midfield couldn’t get near him in that half and he’s played 0 minutes there since in the 2 games.

Don't think anyone was expecting a Cunha replacement but I had hopes he'd be better than average. You might be right about our miss use of him but I still expected more.

So what actually is his position then? An 8?

I think quite a few were because he was sort of billed as that. It’s hard to expect more when he’s basically been being played out of position in a new league for a team that has no style of play.

In this league i would say yes, he could play as the 10 like he did in the West Ham cup game when we went 2 up top but he’s more industrious than the flair you would want there long term.

Gotcha, so you would play a midfield 3 of Andre-Arias-Gomes? I mean I quite like it and it'd mean we could play either Lopez or Tolu up top instead. How likely is VP to do that? Seems very unlikely to me!

Yeah i think that’s all we can do. Bellegarde becomes an option too then in the 3 man midfield. I don’t think he’s likely at all as he’s got no idea.

Think at the point of a midfield 3 would probably be best, despite his lack of scoring input, he's always done a load of defensive work.

I'll admit I've never seen him play in Brazil but having seen him play for us I think he's shit, I couldn't tell you anything that he's good at. As a fan I find it hard to have any idea of what his best position is when he hasn't shown much sign of being good at anything. We've got a lot of industry but lack in creativity in midfield with Gomes and Andre, adding Arias as a third even if more advanced sounds like it just exacerbates the problem to me. I didn't think he played well at Tottenham either.

He had a really good second half against Spurs, but it wasn't in a flair or creative way, it was in a keeping possession and position kind of way.

Other than that he's done nothing at all of note, he's clearly being told to hit the near post on corners, so can't blame him for that really, but aside from corners his set pieces have been mid.

It is sad, he looked so sharp when he scored in that pre season game.

My hope is that he's simply absolutely knackered after not having a break for about 4 years, but I feel it's more he isn't up to the Premier League, and/or we don't have a position for him.
