Ukraine

Well he won the Women's Euros for England!

Accidentally chopped his own head off whilst combing his hair.

As our eyes have been looking at the Royals some big news has been happening in the Ukraine.

A rapid advance of the Ukranian Army is seeing them take back areas from the Russians. Russian army retreating at speed.

The worry here will be Putin's reaction to his army failing.

I'm a bit OOTL now with the Ukraine (not that i ever was massively in the loop) but it seems that Russia is being pushed out of the Ukraine very quickly and a couple of headlines suggest this will have big implications for Russia.

Could we foreseeably see Putin being removed from power and replaced with someone who is wanting to deal with the West a bit more? I suppose what i'm asking is do any of the boffins here think this could be a pathway to Russia eventually releasing more energy to the West and reducing our energy costs?

The Duma in St Petersburg and Moscow have called for Putin to be impeached on treason charges this week and there have been rumours of dissent in the ranks at the 'special operation' plus some TV shows beginning to question things too.

Personally I am longing to see Putin strung up by his bollocks in Red Square a-la-Mussolini though I was impressed that he took time out to pay his respects to the Queen!

Anyone even vaguely sensible will put the gas pipelines back as they were. It's an insane income stream for them.

It's not like they can even use it for their own ends, there is too much there for mere domestic consumption and they aren't connected to most of the tiny number of allies they have. They keep having to burn tons of it off as they can't store it.

He's 72 in a couple of weeks, he isn't hanging around much longer, especially as they aren't going to win this war (at best it'll be what you used to call a "losing draw" in cricket).

i think you're right, first thing anyone coming in will have to do to restore Russia's "presence" would to be to rebuild their military. Best way to do that would be via the income from the gas pipelines

The nordstream? Gas facility just over the border in Russia, was burning £8 million worth of gas a day, because they can’t send it anywhere, china can’t take a lot because there’s only 1 pipeline going to there, and it takes about 10 days to get there.
It’s looking like the end could be looming for putin, lots more people seem to be speaking out in the media, lots of local leaders seem to be speaking out, the defence ministry seems to be a bit more honest about what’s going on.
You’ve got all the soldiers going back home speaking out, there’s no doubt a few more bodies turning up as well into smaller towns and villages away from government influence, they’ll be speaking out as well.
He could be having pressure put on him from political groups against him ( that car bombing of the journalist/agitators daughter) also from generals both military and secret services that he’ll struggle to control.
If he does go, the worry is who replaces him, will they be ‘friendly’ towards the west, or more anti?
The only good news is putin goes, lukashenko in Belarus goes shortly afterwards, as he’s a proper putin puppet regime.
I worryingly sound like I know what I’m talking about, won’t happen very often.

Hearing there has been an attack on Putin's motorcade.
US gone to DEFCON2
And likely to be his own people?

If its the one I heard about earlier, the attackers threw a bomb at his car but sadly he's ok.

Does add to the feeling that the tide is turning against him

Luckily it has to go through several chains of command. He's not like Dr Evil with a huge red button next to his right hand

US hasn’t gone to Defcon 2 since 1991, and in fact has only done so for the start of the gulf war and the Cuban missile crisis. If they have, I would be very surprised if Biden attends the funeral.
