It's a measure to harry their defenders and gain possession in their half rather than a defensive move.

Adama has been OK as a sub of late, I'd leave him in that role for now tbh

He's looked good getting on the ball a bit narrower in the limited minutes he's had, he's got great balance and close control so he shouldn't find it an issue. Just found he went back too often when he got the ball previously and getting the ball further up under more pressure may see him do that even more.
