bigger in texas?

Don't know about your weather over there, here is hell.

Even with an inch of rain last week, we have had only 5 inches this year - less than a third of the average. Hottest ever May, followed by hottest ever June. Currently in Exceptional Drought - the highest level. No end in sight.

Am always exhausted - can't sleep at night, can't stay awake during the day.

Really feel sorry for the poor sods in places suffering worse than this.

But, but climate change isn't real and we can just carry on with mega corporations stripping the planet of all its resources until capitalism literally destroys itself. We're all good here...

You do realise China isn't based on capitalism?

Stumbled across a bloke on you tube doing weekly lake mead updates, that seems to be losing 10 feet of water a week, bloke says a lot of it is climate change and the long ongoing drought, but not putting a water usage plan into effect is worse

John Oliver did a piece on it a couple of weeks ago

There are a lot of utilities who do their very best to improve performance, even in the US. I know they guy who runs operations for a large Texan utility - he goes way above and beyond normal efforts. He can only do so much though when his customers use, and waste, a phenomenal amount of water.

It's a communist Capitalist hybrid taking the worst of both social models.

State control and enforcement coupled with the vanity of uncontrolled growth for the purpose of growth purposes.

Not sure where the war mongering/posturing and invasion of neighbouring countries coupled with the oppression of minorities comes from, not like that's an exclusive club.

Americans won't even give up implements of death, you think we're going to give up 35 minute showers?

13 deaths have been recorded and at least 23 girls are missing after heavy rainfall just north of San Antonio last night. Flooding had been expected, but nobody could have foreseen river levels rising over 30 feet in less than an hour as some areas received 15 inches of rain. This follows another 13 deaths caused by rainstorms only 3 weeks ago.

We have actually been in a drought for 6 years, but when it rains it RAINS, and once a century storms are becoming more frequent.

Bill Gates the early leader on twitter, he’s manipulated the weather for decades.
I’ve commented on a few posts and just said “ it’s climate change, you may of heard about it, buckle up, it’s going to get worse” Americans don’t like being told that,

They’d rather hear “It’s God’s wrath for people opposing Trump”. I say it in jest but sadly some will believe that if it’s suggested.

Several Democrat Texas lawmakers have fled the state over redistricting attempts. Alan understands this better than me, and this is just one aspect of the US electoral system that makes no sense to people from other countries.
At election time the US is not a single country, it is 50 states, each of which draws its own boundaries not just for state elections, but for federal ones too. Usually this is done once a decade after a national census determines how many seats each state get, in some states by an independent commission, and in others by the majority party. With a very small majority in the house of representatives, mango man wants republican states to redraw boundaries right now to maximise the number of republican victories. Gerrymandering for partisan reasons is perfectly legal and proposed new boundaries would probably give republicans 5 extra seats - 30 of 38 in texas.
The Texas legislature only meets every other year and has already concluded its business for 2025, but the governor has the power to recall members and to determine the agenda. BUT there has to be a quorum - 2/3 of members - for business to proceed and occasionally (not only in texas) members of the minority party stay away. They can be arrested in texas but texas police have no jurisdiction in other states.
Gerrymandering is likely to increase in other states both republican and democrat.

Oh God, you could fill bookshelves with how weird the electoral system is. I’m too stoned to get into it. 😶‍🌫️

You nailed the bits you covered. It’s an enormously antiquated and corrupt system. As evidenced by how easily your Congress has been moving this mid-decade redistricting idea through the process.
