We are thinking of fitting air con into our bedroom after the heat of the summer. Mrs HW is a little reluctant because they are ugly things inside and outside the room.

Has anybody got a ceiling fan? Does it cool the room when it is really hot or goes it just recirculate the hot air?

Any recommendations or makes would be much appreciated.

I saw the thread title and though Jeff had come out with another label for supporters

We have one and it does a lovely job of keeping the room cool. Last night was the first night we didn't have it on for a while. Has 3 settings depending on much you want it to cool the room

What make is it please?

In mad heat the only thing that will truly do anything is AC with a vent outdoors, and the windows shut. And probably close the bedroom door unless it's a beast. Maybe leave it open until nearer bed time with a fan on the landing to try and waft it around a bit (that's what I do)

A fan cannot cool the air, but obviously it'll move the warm air around. It's this sensation that gives the feeling of relief when you're in a stuffy room.
That said, the only thing that actually cools the air is Air con. After that it'll be a fan, either a static fan on an adjustable stand or a ceiling fan. I preferred a static fan on low power near the head of the bed, so you felt the effect but it didn't keep you awake.

Also thought this page was about people who admired the tops of rooms.

You do have the option of a portable AC unit

Wife and I were only discussing this recently. She wants to get air con as our house is A-rated for insulation and it was a nightmare to cool this summer.
Air con doesn't seem to be a big thing in Northern Europe for obvious reasons.
I was actually thinking of investing in Air Con start ups as I think that is going to change in the next few years as climate change takes effect.

Good insulation should keep it cool in the summer if you keep all windows and blinds closed.
