Coronavirus

There's no level of surveillance provided by vaccine passports/contact tracing that isn't already volunteered en masse by widespread use of mobile phones, the internet and general every day technology. Why are people worried about it now when they've willingly given up that information to God knows who for years and years?

Proving you are vaccinated against something before you can enter a country isn't a new thing.
Yep, I had my first yellow fever travel certificate in 2001 - was around way before then too.

FWIW I don't have a problem with this - it's the "passports" to go about normal life here in the UK I'm referring to.

I think that people just don't like the thought of being told what to do, even though subliminally that's what happens on an hourly basis

There's a huge difference between getting into a country and being in your own country and asked for a passport every time you want to go to a pub.

Were you asked to produce your travel certificate every time you wanted to go out?

I wasn't when I went to India.

Agree with this.

There's a difference between giving your data away and being asked to produce it.

It's very East Germany and Wolfman is correct, how far will politicians go with this. We won't be able to put that genie back in the bottle.

Fair point, but that is on the assumption that it isn't already circulating in the population so you are keeping it out

Are you seriously comparing the persecution of the Jews in Germany and greater Europe to asking people to get a bloody vaccination to slow down the spread of a global pandemic?

Seriously mate, I'm done reading your mock Orwellian claptrap
It might be claptrap to you but as I’m Jewish whose family from 2 generations ago were all murdered, I have found the ominous totalitarian tendencies of many Western govts during this pandemic deeply disturbing.

Whereas Eastern governments have an almost laissez faire attitude ?

Won't it be nice for the people on here that crave socialism so much to finally experience it :)
Communism can pretty much be boiled down to the misguided desire to pursue:

Public good>>>individual liberty

It's never ended well and it won't this time.

This is the mistake that you and Johnny make every time... Corrupt dictatorship is not real socialism and never will be.
There has never been true Communism as it was envisaged because there will always be someone who wants to be the top dog. That's humanity for you

Edit; and Wolfman too from his last comment...

Whoever said we should be more concerned about Priti Patel banning the right to protest was bang on. I would argue that if the govt are trying to find an excuse to be more controlling etc then the issue is with the govt, rather than the situation we are currently in. The situation could easily change, but if the govt doesn't then we'll find ourselves back here again but with a different situation.

Ahh that old chestnut, if only it was done properly.

Priti Patel is making it illegal to protest. Now that's something worth worrying about.
But Priti Patel is an elected representative making a decision that in her view is good for the public.

Public good>>>individual liberty...... remember!

That's fair, but as we can't I don't think forcing people to have something is too far away from 'papers please'.
