Diogo Jota.

❤️ Ruben. I'm presuming his mates playing in Club World Cup missed his wedding? Feeling for them right now.

Read Rubens post on my break at work and honestly fought back tears. Jesus wept.

Everything is so raw at the moment.

"He never asked us for anything. He never said he wanted branded boots. He knew we couldn’t afford them, he was thoughtful. That’s why he learned to value things—and life.

The feedback we received from Paços de Ferreira (his first club) was amazing. They told us Diogo was very responsible and mature. And for us, that was enough.

Knowing our son behaved well was better than seeing him become a superstar. It made us feel that our work had been well done, and that filled us with pride.

He never went out at night as a teenager, only for his birthday. No dinners out, no parties—nothing. He stayed at home, even when I myself told him to go out.

For Diogo, if there was soccer in the afternoon and PlayStation at night, that was enough. We worked hard to give him his first console. He never asked for it. He never asked for anything."

The heartfelt letter written by Isabel Silva, Diogo Jota’s mother, in The Players’ Tribune, about her son.

Rest in peace.

Yeah, that's me done now. Hung on through the tributes but that hits hard

I mentioned Diogo tonight to Miguel who owns the restaurant we ate at. He straightaway said he couldn't talk about it as so upsetting. He returned a few minutes later to say that regardless of football, it's his wife, his kids, his parents he feels for and also criticised the pictures of them at the mortuary.

He is a Benfica fan who knows of Wolverhampton and the Portuguese connection, he said he likes the fact that the people of Wolverhampton love the Portuguese people.

Just watching Pedro paying tribute to Diogo in Philly...heartbreaking. I was at the Fluminense v Al Hilal and the minutes silence was extremely rough seeing Ruben and Cancelo choked up. The emotion of the moment also got to me but what strikes me most is how the football world can come together in times like this. Hopefully the family will come to understand the love that is out there for Diogo and his brother, Andre and draw some comfort from it.

In the Orlando game, the ref gave Al Hilal a penalty. I figured Ruben would take it and do something special to pay tribute but sadly it went to VAR and the pen was ruled out.

It's been a privilege to see Ruben twice this week, just wish this latter one wasn't in these circumstances.

I was thinking, is there any way we can alter the last 'we're all going to Gdansk' line of his chant so that we can bring that back and sing his name every game this season?

Di-o-goooo, Jota. Running down the wing, Jota. Hear the Wanderers Sing, Jota, We’ll remember you each day
?

Sing a song for Jota, we will never let you go
You will always be, in the south bank with me
