Everton (H) - 30/8 - Build-up and match thread

I think it's always just been the mess that we already had rather than us messing the summer up.

Today will be tough given the absences and the squad essentially being 3 short at this stage anyway (I'm assuming Krejci won't start?). I'm far less pessimistic about the rest of the squad than others though, hopefully we can put in a good performance today.
Agree the mess has been a long time in the making. And also that I think we’ve unpicked some of it this summer. Could have done without the JSL episode for today’s game of course, but that will work its way through. Of course, lots of fans and pundits who are wildly down on us now were hopelessly wrong with their optimism at the same time last year. So I’m happy to discount their views to some degree. They might not be wrong every time I guess.

Please don't ever be positive again Jinks..
In a funny twist of fate, I actually rang Wolves this morning because we made a last minute decision to get 4 tickets and take our kids to their first ever Wolves game today - and because the kids don't yet have supporter numbers, I was told I'm not allowed to buy tickets for todays match. So I've literally been told by the club that I'm not allowed to go and watch them today 😂

(I'm sure there will be a reasonable explanation - but you'd think the club would want as many people through the doors as possible)

Whilst I’m far from optimistic Everton lost at Leeds and by all accounts were dreadful. I know they’ve got new players in but there’s no reason to fear them, though with Hwang or Munetsi starting up front they’ll feel the same about us.

Quite sad that the roles have reversed today.

In recent years, Everton were always a big, physical side which made them difficult to play against, but they lacked any sort of real attacking quality, whereas we had individuals who were a step above whatever they had on the pitch (Jota, Neto, Cunha).

Now, they've got Grealish, Ndiaye, Dibling and we're playing Munetsi and Hwang in a front three.

Not to say we will definitely lose, but another example of how far we've fallen. At best we'll scrap for a draw or win in a low quality game, but if Everton click they will win.

Fuck it, sometimes good organisation and other players putting in a performance can make the difference. We can still win without JSL, let's see what the team sheet is like
The fuck have you done with the real PK

Still doesn't fancy Lopez starting then

Tchatchoua + S.Bueno = 1 average paced human

Not sure I'd have been too happy if you'd told me we'd be starting a game early this season with both Buenos and Hwang starting, but fuck it, let's get behind the XI, whoever they are.

We all know what state the squad is in, hopefully this is a game closer to new signings and also those recent signings being integrated into the side more.

Time for Arias to step up a gear, looking forward to hopefully a full game and some blistering runs from Tchatchoua, and excited to see Krejci get some minutes hopefully
